TL

It was wonderful having so many families here with us for the annual Thanksgiving lunch!

Upcoming School Closings

School will be closed next week on Wednesday, November 27th, Thursday, the 28th, and Friday the 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday.

School will also be closed December 23--January 3 for Winter Break.

Monday, January 20th is a holiday.

January 27th and 28th are teacher workdays and staff development days.

Donations for Art

To help clean up our messy hands and tables, the art department would like to get donations of tissue boxes and baby wipes. Please send any items you are able to donate to school with your child. Thank you so much for your support!

Attendance Matters!

Fairfax County Public Schools is required to keep track of student participation in school, through attendance reporting to the state of Virginia. You may have received one or more calls or electronic messages when your student did not arrive in class on time, or when the school was not notified that the student would be absent.

It is vital that parents access the school attendance phone line or attendance e-mail when they know that their students will miss school. You can contact Lees Corner by calling the attendance line at  703-227-3535 or by email at LeesCornerElem.Attendance@fcps.edu. Knowing the reason why students are absent helps school personnel understand if a specific reason (such as illness or family hardship) is keeping them out of school.

When parents know that their students must be out for a specific period (more than a day), they can access and submit a prearranged absence form. This must be done at least three to five days in advance of the absence. This gives administrators and teachers time to consider the work, tests, and projects the student may need to turn in on the student’s return to school. Parents should avoid end-of-semester or end-of-course exam periods; state testing periods; etc., when making plans. Please make every effort to arrange travel during school breaks.

Absences add up, and research indicates that missing 10 percent of the school year, for any reason, can have a negative impact on student success. Learn more about FCPS’ attendance expectations.

Plan Your Visit

We love having parents and families members visit us and we welcome volunteers. The students feel so excited and proud when they have visitors! In order to keep our school safe, we require all visitors to sign in using our electronic Scholar Chip system. To use the system, you need a drivers license or other ID that can be scanned. So the next time you plan to visit us, please be sure to  bring your ID into the building with you.

Lost & Found

Please stop by the lost and found table in the lobby. We still have a large collection of items. Anything not claimed by the Thanksgiving break will be donated to a charity.

Cafeteria & Lunch Reminders

We want all students to have a safe and enjoyable experience at lunch. Please help us by keeping the following guidelines in mind:

  • Do not send your child's snack, lunch, or drink in glass containers. This includes glass water bottles. Glass containers can break and may cause injury to a child.
  • If a food needs to be cut, please cut it at home. Students should not come to school with knives of any kind.
  • Please send your child with food that does not need to be heated. We do not have microwaves in the cafeteria.
