A Message From Principal Badini

Dear Graham Road Community!

As we approach our first long holiday break, I am looking forward to spending time with my husband and daughter as we travel to be with extended family. This time of year is one of my favorites because of all the special events we have planned as a family! As a school community, we have many fun and important events planned as well.

I am feeling incredibly grateful for this community of educators and families. Over the past few months, my excitement and joy has grown exponentially as I've gotten to know you, your children and the incredible staff I get to work alongside every day. The best parts of my day are when I visit classrooms filled with your eager, inquisitive children. I often see students sharing their thinking thinking after solving math problems, students persuading their classmates to consider other points of view and students expressing themselves creatively through visual art and music. I encourage you to ask your child to share with you something they can do now that they could not do at the beginning of the school year. You will be impressed!

Have a safe, happy long weekend!

Horizon Testing

Students in Grades 3-6 will be taking a FCPS test called Horizon throughout next week and into December in reading and in math. Grade 4 will also take a social studies and science test and Grade 5 will take a science test. The purpose of these tests is see how students are applying what was taught in the first months of school and where teachers need to go back and teach. They are not used to determine a student's grade on a progress report. The questions look similar to the ones that students will see on the SOL's in May and are taken on a computer.

Here is the upcoming testing schedule:

Monday, November 25 - 4th Grade Social Studies

Tuesday, November 26 - 5th Grade Science (on 4th grade standards)

Falls Church Pyramid Parent Information Event

December 10th @ Falls Church High School

Healthy Choices: Information Session on Vaping/Drug Use in High Schools

On December 10th from 6:30 – 7:30pm, Falls Church High School will be hosting an event open to all parents from Falls Church, Luther Jackson, and our feeder elementary schools.  This session has five goals:

  • inform parents of the latest drug use information by high school students (including JUULing/ vape devices)
  • communicate the dangers of the various drugs
  • learn how to identify the latest drug paraphernalia out there and signs of use
  • drug use and the SR&R
  • tips for communication with their children about drug use

The presentation portion of the event will take no more than the first 40 minutes and will be delivered by a panel of school staff, substance abuse prevention specialist, and a Fairfax County police officer.  The rest of the time will be open for Q&A as well as an opportunity for parents to come up and see actual samples of drug paraphernalia (including the latest vaping devices).

This is a free event.  We will start at 6:30 pm in the Falls Church High School cafeteria.

Spanish & Vietnamese interpreters will be available.
