ON-SITE ADMISSIONS with Richard Bland Junior College
Seniors: Do you want to "go away" for college, yet are not sure if you are ready for a 4-year college? Perhaps you need a little extra support? Richard Bland Junior College (a daughter school of the College of William & Mary) might be an option for you.
On Monday, December 9th, Richard Bland College (RBC) Admissions Representative will be here to talk one-on-one with seniors and will make an admissions decision on the spot. See Mrs. Peirce in the College & Career Center to find out more and to secure your appointment.
From the RBC Admissions Office: Richard Bland College of William & Mary is the only two-year residential college in Virginia. Our campus is located in South Prince George, Virginia—just a short commute from Richmond. Richard Bland takes components of both the community college system and the 4-year university and blends them together to create a welcoming and unique atmosphere in which the goal is always 100% student success. RBC has over 35 transfer agreements with both public and private universities in Virginia, with an Exceptional Student Experience team dedicated solely to making sure that our students are able to transfer seamlessly to their next destination after completing their 2 years at RBC. In addition to our transfer agreements, RBC differs from your local community college in regards to housing, athletics, scholarships, and the small, family-like atmosphere of a close-knit campus. From the Library
- Our first reading challenge of the year kicked off this week! Read Through the Holidays encourages students and staff to spend time with books during the upcoming breaks. This is a “create your own” reading challenge. When students sign up here or on the library’s Blackboard course, they can briefly state what they’ve set as their challenge. They may decide to read a certain number of books, to try one or two books by a certain author, or to commit to reading a picture book to a younger sibling several nights a week. Students know best what will give them a sense of accomplishment. All participants will be invited to a Stinger in January for refreshments and a raffle of a few prizes.
- It’s not too late to join one of this year’s Battle of the Books teams. We’re now in our third year—we couldn’t let Herndon Middle School have all of the Battle of the Books fun! Herndon HS teachers serve as coaches for the teams that read a predetermined set of books, and the teams face off in April in a quiz-bowl-style competition. You can find all of the details on this year’s Battle of the Books by going to Blackboard, selecting the Herndon HS Library course, and choosing the Battle of the Books tab. We are happy to answer any questions you or your student have.

Weekly Progress Reports in ParentVue
All parents/guardians of Middle School and High School students who have registered for a SIS ParentVUE Account and have a primary email address recorded in SIS ParentVUE can receive Weekly Progress Reports via email. This report provides a summary of your student(s) grades for the current quarter. To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE Account and first verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab. If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports and click on update account. Once confirmed, parents/guardians are able to activate and select their preferences for receiving these reports within the SIS ParentVUE “My Account” tab.
Weekly progress reports for all of your Middle and High School students will be included in one email. FCPS Elementary Schools do not use the SIS grade book and therefore are not included in these reports.
For questions about a specific progress report or grade you can login into your SIS ParentVUE Account to find detailed grade book information. Additionally, your student’s teacher is always the best resource to answer any grade book questions that you may have. Weekly Progress Report Parent Quick Reference Guide
