Being on time to class is vital to student success because it ensures students do not miss instruction and it limits disruptions to class as a whole. You already know about the Tardy Tables in the morning, but you might not know how the staff of Herndon High School handles tardiness to classes later in the day. This week, we will begin conducting Tardy Sweeps. Here’s how it works:
At the beginning of a previously unannounced class period, teachers and students are alerted that we are conducting a Tardy Sweep. Teachers must close their doors to students and take attendance. Students who are tardy to class will then either report to the Tardy Table or have their name submitted to the administrative team (depending on the time of day and other logistical needs). Students who are tardy will be assigned a warning or other consequence. We will continuing with the same protocol for tardiness to school:
- 1st and 2nd offense: Warning
- 3rd offense: Parent Contact
- 4th offense: Alternative Instructional Arrangement (AIA) for one Stinger period
- 5th offense: AIA for two Stinger periods
- 6th offense: AIA for two full class blocks (meet with SOSA, case manager, counselor, or other staff)
- 7th offense: ISS
- 8th + offense: Administrator Discretion
Please help us by reminding your student to make getting to class on time a priority! Thank you for your continued support!
