Zones of Regulation

Thursday, December 5, 2019

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

Rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy, the Zones of Regulation is a framework that uses four colors to help students identify their feelings and level of alertness and provides strategies to support emotional regulation. By understanding how to notice their body’s signals, detect triggers, read social context, and consider how their behaviors impact those around them, students learn improved emotional control, sensory regulation, self-awareness, and problem-solving skills.

German Team Award

German Teacher Award

Robinson's German Language Teachers

Our principal, Ms. Tracey Phillips, recently received a letter from the German American Partnership Program notifying her of an award given to our German teachers.  Ms. Massey, Ms. Ostermann-Healey and Ms. Laemmerzahl make up our German team.

The German program at Robinson Secondary School was recognized because our students are among the 400,000 GAPP alumni who have built bridges of friendship and understanding across cultures.  Our German program hosts exchange students every autumn and Robinson students travel to Germany every summer.  Our German teachers have been instrumental in maintaining these relationships where students can practice the second languages they are learning as well as foster international friendships by immersing themselves in another culture.

While visiting each other, students spend time with host families as well as participate in each other's school day.  Our German department is helping to develop Global Citizenship by broadening our students' perspectives.

In acknowledgement for their hard work and dedication, our German Teachers received a commemorative plaque to be displayed at Robinson Secondary School.  Ramtastic!

Absences Add Up!  Schedule Family Travel During School Breaks

Fairfax County Public Schools is required to keep track of student participation in school, through attendance reporting to the state of Virginia.

You may have received:

  • one or more calls
  • a chronic absence letter in the mail, indicating that your student has accumulated 5 or more excused and/or unexcused all-day absences
  • a letter in the mail requesting that a doctor note be provided when your student has accumulated 9 or more excused and/or unexcused all-day absences
  • electronic messages when your student did not arrive in class on time (tardy) or when the school was not notified that the student would be absent.

It is vital that parents access the school attendance phone line or attendance e-mail when they know that their students will miss school. Knowing the reason why students are absent helps school personnel understand if a specific reason (such as illness or family hardship) is keeping them out of school.

When parents know that their students must be out for a specific period (more than a day), they can access and submit a prearranged absence form. This must be done at least three to five days in advance of the absence. This gives administrators and teachers time to consider the work, tests, and projects the student may need to turn in on the student’s return to school. Parents should avoid end-of-semester or end-of-course exam periods; state testing periods; etc., when making plans. Please make every effort to arrange travel during school breaks.

Absences add up, and research indicates that missing 10 percent of the school year, for any reason, can have a negative impact on student success. Learn more about FCPS’ attendance expectations.
