Focus of the Week: Gratitude
“You are aware of and thankful for good things that happen.”
Here are some conversation starters that will encourage your child to share what he/she has learned and talk about it with your family.
- Why is it important to show gratitude for the things around you?
- How have you shown gratitude to someone this week?
- How does it make you and others feel when you show gratitude?

The 2019-20 yearbook cover contest is underway. Look for the flyer/entry form coming home today in Thursday folders.
Did you know that 5% of the food that feeds children in our area comes from food drives just like ours? Our food drive is very important in our hometown and helps to feed over 200,000 children in the area!
As a result, we are very proud of our student participation in the SCA Food Drive. Our food drive is taking place from Nov. 18th to Dec. 20th. All donations will be delivered to the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, a local outreach center that manages a food pantry for the local Fairfax community. They are incredibly appreciative of the work we are doing and would like GBW to know how much our commitment to servicing the community makes a difference in the lives of others. Please donations must be non-perishable food and no glass. Our goal is to reach 2000 items!
Food Drive Schedule
Nov 18-26- Week 1 & 2: Meats & Proteins- (Canned Meat, Peanut Butter, Canned Beans)
Dec. 2-6- Week 3: Fruits & Vegetables - (dried fruit, canned fruit, 100% fruit juice)
Dec. 9-13 - Week 4: Baking Supplies & Healthy Grains (flour, cereal, rice, oatmeal, whole grain pasta, barley, crackers)
Dec. 16-20 - Week 5: Baby Supplies (infant formula, diapers, sensitive wipes, baby shampoo & lotion, baby laundry detergent)

We have a HG&D Parent meeting on Tuesday, December 3, in the library from 8:30-9:00 am for parents to talk with school staff about the Human Growth and Development curriculum. Parents are welcome to contact the classroom teachers or Ms. Campbell with any questions.
If you are planning to have your child in grade 2-6 screened for Level IV AAP services this January, we will be holding an information session on Wednesday, December 4th at 8:30am in Trailer 9. At this meeting, we will discuss the Level IV screening process, review the timeline for screening and eligibility decisions, and look at different components of the Level IV application. Please email Sara Balcanoff at sebalcanoff@fcps.edu if you plan to attend.
Just as a reminder, all Level IV parent referral forms are due to GBW by January 9th at 4pm. We are unable to accept referrals after this deadline. Referral forms can be found at: https://www.fcps.edu/node/38893

Winter is coming! Please review the Weather Cancellation Procedures for FCPS.

How is the School-Age Child Care (SACC) program affected by closings and delays?
When schools are closed for the day, extended day care and school-age child care centers will be closed all day. When schools are opened two hours late, extended day care and school-age child care centers will be open by 8 a.m. When schools are closed early due to worsening weather conditions during the day, extended day care and school-age child care centers will operate from the time school closes until 6:15 p.m. whenever possible. Parents may be required to arrange for an early pickup when necessary.
