 Free Workshops in December

FCPS Parent Resource Center

  • Zones of Regulation: Zones of Regulation is a framework that uses four colors to help students identify their feelings and level of alertness and provides strategies to support emotional regulation. By understanding how to notice their body’s signals, detect triggers, read social context, and consider how their behaviors impact those around them, students learn improved emotional control, sensory regulation, self-awareness, and problem-solving skills.
  • Raising Children with High Self-Esteem in a High Pressure Culture: We all want our children to feel good about themselves and meet their full potential. But how can we raise children with healthy self-esteem when they compare themselves to others and believe they aren't doing or being enough… no matter how successful they are?
  • Twice Exceptional Students: What Parents Need to Know: Twice-exceptional (2e) learners have exceptional strengths and exceptional learning challenges. Please join us to learn what FCPS is doing to provide schools and families with insight and guidance to support the identification, instruction, and social-emotional wellness of 2e students.

Details for each of these sessions can be found on the FCPS website

Dress for the Weather

The weather this time of year can be unpredictable, with temperatures sometimes changing quickly throughout the day. Dressing in layers is often helpful. Please make sure your students are coming to school with coats, hats and gloves, if appropriate, as they still go outside for recess whenever possible.

Inclement Weather and Emergency Closing Plans; Please Make Arrangements Now in Case of an Unforeseen Schedule Change

When Fairfax County Public Schools have a schedule change (closing or delay) due to inclement weather or other emergencies, the information is communicated as soon as the decision is made in these ways:

  1. Posted on fcps.edu.
  2. Posted to the FCPS Twitter and Facebook
  3. Email and text messages sent to parents and employees.
  4. Email sent to News You Choose subscribers of Delayed Openings and School Closings.
  5. Posted on FCPS cable Channel 21 (Cox Communications, Reston Comcast, and Verizon cable customers only).
  6. Area radio and television stations.
  7. REMEMBER, Halley is a Fairfax County Public School.

Parents are urged to make arrangements now for the care of their children when schedule changes are made (and to provide for the rare situation when it is necessary to close an individual school because of a power failure or other circumstances). Children should know where to go or what to do if a parent will not be at home.
