Positivty Project Character Trait Of The Month Is Gratitude

We are focusing the entire month of November on the character trait of gratitude.  Out of all 24 character strengths, gratitude is the single best predictor of individual well-being.  It is correlated with increased energy, empathy, happiness and optimism.

What does gratitude mean?

Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation.  It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness.  People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness.  A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a “relationship strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we’ve been supported and affirmed by other people.”

Fairfax Villa Family Engagement Survey Results

This year, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) conducted a division-wide Family Engagement Survey to all families with students in grades K-12.

The survey asked families to provide their feedback on their engagement at their child’s school in six core areas:

  • Welcoming environment
  • Communication
  • Student success
  • Advocacy
  • Family and school partnerships
  • Collaboration with the community.

We are proud that Fairfax Villa families reported:

  • 95 percent feel our school welcomes families of different backgrounds and cultures.
  • 95 percent feel welcome at our school.
  • 96 percent feel the children feel safe at our school.
  • 95 percent feel information provided to me is easy to understand
  • 96 percent feel our school is safe.

This feedback will help us continue to strengthen family engagement and foster a Caring Culture.
