Attendance Matters!
Attendance drives everything! It is tied to almost every aspect of school performance and future outcomes.
What are some simple things we can do to support good attendance?
- Positively encourage good attendance with your children.
- Communicate about obstacles to attendance so the school can offer support.
- Encourage, support, and assist your children with learning and acting responsibly by:
- Asking specific questions about classes and homework
- Get to know your child’s teachers
- Reach out to teachers when your child is struggling
- Avoid absences unless absolutely necessary!

Young Scholars Workshop
The Young Scholars Workshop focuses on math and science. Students must bring work with them. Teachers and NHS students are on hand to help in Algebra 1 through BC Calculus plus Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
The workshop runs from 9AM-12Noon in room 239.
ATTENDANCE IS NOW ONLINE!
School begins promptly at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 2:55 p.m. Please use the new online form to submit absences for your student on our website https://fallschurchhs.fcps.edu/. DO NOT use the online form OR the attendance line if you are picking your student up early. Please send them to the main office with a note or call the main office at 703-207-4000. We will still be accepting absences and late arrivals on the attendance line at 703-207-4019, but you do not have to call if you used the online form.
Our website also includes information about arriving late, leaving early, and what constitutes an excused absence. The automated system that contacts parents for absences goes out at 10:15am and 4:15pm. If you believe you were notified incorrectly, check SIS ParentVUE for accuracy and furthermore, you can contact your child’s school counselor for clarification.
Although the FCHS Academy is in the same building, all Academies have their own attendance system and it’s best when you call in an absence that you contact both the base school and Academy.

FCHS Outstanding Employee Awards
Nominations are now open for the Outstanding Employee Awards! To submit a nomination for a Falls Church High School Outstanding Employee in one of the categories below, please complete the nomination through this Google form link. You may nominate an employee in one or more category. Specific eligibility and criteria for each category is linked here. The deadline to submit a nomination is 3pm on November 22, 2019. On Wednesday this last week Falls Church High School's Tech Theatre classes went to summit ropes indoor adventure! In teams, they gathered clues to help them escape the course and then enjoyed about an hour of free climb! Overcoming personal obstacles and team building? Check, check!

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE MUSICAL TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW!
This musical tells the tale of several socially awkward youngsters finding joy, heartache and a purpose in competing at the regional spelling bee features a score by William Finn and a book by Rachel Sheinkin. Due to mature themes, families are asked to use discretion when buying tickets for students 12 and under.
PLEASE NOTE: Discounted Student and Senior tickets will be available through November 19th. Beginning on November 20th, all tickets will only be available for purchase at the full price of $10.

Driver Education Information
Partners for Safe Teen Driving
The state of Virginia requires all 10th grade students and their parent/guardian to attend a 90-minute traffic safety program as part of the classroom driver education instruction. This condition must be met for a student to successfully complete the classroom portion of Driver Education. Students in 11th and 12th grade must register with ACE and pay $30 dollar fee. Please see Mr. Booth with questions.
The dates/location for this year's presentations are:
- December 11th, 2019 (Cafeteria)
- March 18th, 2020 (Cafeteria)
- May 6th, 2020 (Cafeteria)
All programs will begin PROMPTLY at 7:00 pm. There will be no admittance once the program has begun. You are strongly encouraged to mark your calendar now and plan to attend.
Permit Test
Requirements:
- 15 years and 6 months old
- Must have fully charged school issued laptop with headphones
- Must Pre-Register at least 2 days before test
- Must be registered on both DMV website and FCPS ACE website
- Must have DTS-41 Form SIGNED AT BEGINNING OF TEST
The dates/times/location for this year's permit tests are:
- November 21st, 2019 - 3:15pm - Trailer #7 (Tennis Courts)
- December 12th, 2019 - 5:00pm - Trailer #7 (Tennis Courts)
