Chantilly Academy News

Max Impact, the premier rock band of the United States Air Force recently accepted an invitation from Chantilly Academy Air Force JROTC students to perform at Chantilly HS.  Stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., it is one of six musical ensembles that form The U.S. Air Force Band. This six-piece band performs classic and current rock and country hits, as well as patriotic favorites and original music. The band not only “rocked out” for students to dance and have fun, but also left students with encouraging words and thoughts about pursuing their future goals and persisting through rejection. The entire performance was a special moment for the AFJROTC cadets and other students that attended.

Cosmetology

Cosmetology students participated in their yearly fantasy hair and makeup contest. This contest is an exciting platform for creative, driven students to showcase their talents. The contest allows them to challenge and promote themselves through their hair artistry with a fantasy concept. The contest was judged by professionals from Hair Cuttery.

MA

The month of October has been a busy month for students in our Medical Assistant program with plenty of opportunity for hands-on learning and practicing their professional workplace skills.  Students had the opportunity to assist with hearing and vision screenings at various elementary, middle, and high schools in the county.  Additionally, students facilitated the check-in at the yearly flu shot clinic at Chantilly High School.

ES

Sixth grade students from McNair and Centre Ridge Elementary Schools recently got to spend the afternoon investigating future career pathways and connecting with Academy students through hands-on class demonstrations.  The sixth graders divided into groups based on their interests and explored activities in Air Force JROTC, Dental Careers, Exploring Health Sciences, Criminal Justice, and Auto Collision.  This was a fantastic opportunity for the high school students to teach and mentor the sixth graders—certainly a learning experience for both groups of students.

Finance Update

Several students still have not paid their class fees. Please logon to www.myschoolbucks.com to pay online or send cash/check in with your student. It is imperative that these class fees are paid as they are used to provide various materials for your student.

Unpaid class fees can result in your students inability to purchase parking passes, prom tickets and/or pick up graduation caps/gowns.

Should you have any questions about class fees, please contact your students teacher or the Academy Finance Technician, Sheri Stern at ssstern@fcps.edu.
