From the Principal's Desk....

Erin

Dear Family Fairfax,

Social media feeds already have students and teachers turning their PJs inside out in anticipation of snowfall next week!  It feels like we were seeing shorts and sunglasses, and now we are deep into boots and warm-winter coats!

Earlier this week, the reminder went out about the technology fee for FCPSOn.  Some details to highlight are as follows:

This past week, parents were invoiced for the technology support fee via Myschoolbucks.com. If you do not have a Myschoolbucks.com account yet, please create one now. It only takes a few minutes, and it’s easy to use. Special arrangements can be made for parents who would prefer to pay the fee in person.

Students who have Free and Reduced status and have given consent to share their FRM status for a waiver or reduction of the technology support fee will be charged $25 for Reduced status; the fee will be waived for Free status.

Please visit the FCPSOn webpage for more about FCPSOn and see message below in the Fairfax Pride Needs to Know.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, we have much to be thankful for at Fairfax High School.  Not only a successful end to our cheer season with Regional cheer last weekend (and our ladies finishing third), but in the heart stopping Regional Tournament Field Hockey game last night where our Fighting Fairfax lost in overtime to Woodson High School…onwards to States and Langley on Tuesday night!  Another group of athletes, our Cross Country team PR’d for many of them at Burke Lake on Thursday, and we were all so proud to see these young men and women finish so strong!  Now, we are bundling up to watch our football team take on Woodson at Woodson tonight as our cheerleaders keep us motivated for a win!

It is never all sports, we had DECA competing on Monday and our It’s Academic team will be competing tomorrow—the airing date will be released as soon as we know.

Finally, a group of professionals who often go uncelebrated, our Academy staff, had a tremendous week…Erin Molek won an award for Best Academy website!  Her picture is included in the collage above.

Next week will be a final NYC for me until the new year begins.  I will be out on medical leave, so NYC will include contact information and the interim leadership plans at Fairfax among other details, so please be on the lookout!  Our team and Region leadership are working collaboratively to ensure a smooth transition.

Stay warm this weekend!

Most sincerely,

With Participation Respect Integrity Determination Empathy,

Erin B. Lenart, Ed.D.

Fairfax Pride Needs to Know:

News from Sub School 1

Greetings from Sub School 1! It has been a wonderful start to my first year at Fairfax High School and I am thrilled to be working with many of the students I got to know at Lanier Middle School.  For the past three years, I served as an assistant principal at Lanier Middle School.  Prior to that, I was a math teacher and department chair at West Springfield High School. I am now in my fourth year as an assistant principal and serve as the administrator for Sub-School 1, working with students whose last names begin with A through D.  I am the administrator for the class of 2022 and oversee the Mathematics and Special Education Departments.

Sub-school 1 can be found in room A114 in the front of the building in the A wing. Sub School 1’s amazing administrative assistant, Mrs. Cindy Kreisel, is happy to provide students with pre-arranged absence forms, applications for CUE bus pass and to answer any questions your student may have. The school counselors who serve our sub-school are St. Clair Phillips, Peter Uncles, and Donna Leone and our Dean of Students is Joe Blaszkow.

Please feel free to contact me whenever you have questions or concerns. My direct line is 703-219-2376 or e-mail, kjgreata@fcps.edu.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kevin Greata

FCPSon: Annual Technology Support Fee $50

FCPSOn, our digital transformation initiative, expanded to all Fairfax County public high schools and started this school year. FCPSOn provides equitable access to technology and to instructional practices that support students' development of Portrait of a Graduate attributes.

As part of the initiative, all high school students were issued a laptop for learning at school and at home. An annual technology support fee of $50 has been charged to high school students. This fee is to help ensure students have access to the technology they need by defraying the cost to repair and replace equipment, ensuring all students have the necessary laptops for testing, and providing back-up laptops as a substitute as needed. All students will need access to the same software, which might not be compatible with self-provided laptops. (See link to website below for FAQs.)

Students who have Free and Reduced status and have given consent to share their FRM status for a waiver or reduction of the technology support fee will be charged $25 for Reduced status; the fee will be waived for Free status.

Please visit the FCPSOn webpage for more about FCPSOn.

Please contact your School Administrator if have any questions.

DigCit for Parents: Privacy and Internet Safety

As we look to engage students more online, and they are socializing more online, using various platforms it is important that we educate ourselves and our children to stay safe.  There are some things you can do to ensure they are being safe, and their privacy is protected.  Linked above is an article of good practices when you use online platforms or apps.  If you ever have questions about this, please contact Tim Brown
