A Note from the Franconia Student Council Association:
Hello! My name is Jessica Lee and I am your Student Council reporter. Currently, we are collecting supplies for Tanzania. Students may donate hygiene products or art supplies. Fliers went out in Wednesday folders, so please donate. Students may drop their donations in their classroom bins.
We completed the Marine Marathon Mile Clean-up in downtown D.C.! We raised $900 for Franconia Elementary! It was great to cheer on the runners, while helping to keep our city clean AND earning money for our school!
I’m excited to keep the Franconia community informed of everything the SCA will be doing this year. Keep an eye out for the next SCA newsletter to get all the latest news!

Every Day Counts!
Absences Add Up
FCPS is looking forward to a great school year! Regular attendance is essential for students to form positive peer and adult relationships and to learn. In fact, when students miss significant amounts of instructional time, they tend to lose momentum academically.
We do monitor each child’s attendance daily and will contact a parent if a child does not arrive at school or class as expected. Of course, there are times that students may have health or other concerns that may prevent them from being present. Please contact the school by using its attendance telephone line, email, or online form if your child will be absent.
More information about FCPS’ attendance expectations is available online here.
Telephone Parent Information Line Available in Eight Languages
Parents who speak Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, Urdu, or Vietnamese can call a telephone information line for general information about FCPS and to receive support if they are having difficulty communicating with their children's schools due to a language barrier.
We invite you to a

The Read-A-Thon runs
October 30 - November 14
Support our new STEAM Lab at Franconia with your READ-A-THON donation to help our “maker space” come alive with first-rate learning tools for Kindergarten through 6th grade. Our goal of $15,000 allows the PTA to purchase interactive, hands on materials for combining Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, so students can learn, explore, and solve problems in new ways.
If the whole school logs 250,000 minutes every class gets a prize AND Mr. Smith and Ms. Pinski will DYE THEIR HAIR GREEN! All reading (and being read-to) counts towards our READ-A-THON.
Participate by creating your reading dashboard from your mobile phone, table, or computer at:
https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/enter_code_m
The secret passcode has been in Wednesday folders on October 23 and 30. Get a free prize just for creating your READ-A-THON.com dashboard.
Encourage family & friends to donate. It is as easy as sending a link from the dashboard!
Students record the minutes they read online at: https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/enter_code_m
100% of Cash/Check donations go towards the STEAM lab.
Want 100% of your donation to go to the PTA? Write a check directly to the Franconia PTA. Cash/Check donations will NOT be entered into the Read-A-Thon website for prizes. Envelopes for cash/check donations are coming in a future Wednesday folder.
See updates on how much the school is reading on:
