Important News & Information

Attendance Matters!

Chronic tardiness is when students are consistently late to class and can have dramatic results on a student’s school performance and future outcomes. LJMS students who arrive late and leave early from school miss out on key learning opportunities such as announcements, academic activities, test and quizzes and social interactions with peers.

Below is the tardy policy for LJMS. Please encourage your student to arrive to all classes on time.

5 Tardies = Parent Notification / Letter mailed home

10 Tardies = Friday School

15 Tardies = 2 Friday Schools

20 Tardies = 3 Friday Schools

25 Tardies = 1 Day of ISS

1 Skipped Lunch Detention = 1 Day of Friday School

Wellness Corner

Germs, bacteria, and viruses - oh my!

This week we'll focus on a few easy ways to prevent spreading bacteria that can damage the immune system and cause illness in ourselves or our loved ones.

We touch so many things every day, including light switches, door handles, elevator buttons, gas pumps, toilet handles, and our faces!  With our hands being a common way to spread bacteria, practicing good hand hygiene is important in limiting the exposure to and spread of the germs.

  1. Sneeze or cough into your elbow.  This will keep mucus and saliva off of your hands.
  2. Sanitize your hands with an alcohol-based sanitizer multiple times per day, particularly before eating, preparing food, or touching ones eyes, mouth, or nose and after every bathroom use.  Sanitizing is the best way to ensure routine disinfection throughout the day.
  3. Wash your hands with soap and warm/hot water when they are visibly dirty or contaminated with bodily fluids.

Other ways to limit the spread of germs -

  1. Don't share utensils, drinks, or make-up/chapstick.
  2. Disinfect the surfaces in your home and workplace - don't forget door handles and light switches.
  3. Keep your immune system strong by staying hydrated, eating immune-boosting foods, and addressing stress in your life.

Box Top for Education

Box Tops for Education

Luther Jackson is collecting Box Tops for Education!  Every one of those little pink squares you find on packaging around the grocery store earns 10 cents for our school.  Please check the expiration date, clip them, and have your student bring them to the front office.  The PTA will do the counting and redeeming for us all!  The money goes directly to our school.  Thanks for your help!

See the GREAT @ Jackson!

This week we celebrate LJMS Parent Academy Night # 2, students and staff working together in selecting new texts for Q2, and students celebrating a friendly class competition.
