From our Admin
Dear Belvedere families,
Thank you to all who have attended student-led conferences. We hope you walked away with an understanding of what your child has been learning at school. We know students were so excited and proud to be able to share with you what they learn at school.
Our wonderful librarian, Marcy Atkins, works tirelessly to ensure students develop a love of reading and writing exposing them to a variety of authors. This includes scheduling author visits. To date, the Belvedere students have experience the following author visits:
- Fifth Grade students Skyped into an episode of Meet the Author that is shown on Red Apple 21. Students read books by local Pakistani-American author Hena Khan. In their classrooms, teachers provided opportunities for students to create projects or participate in thinking routines related to the books read. Students were able to view the Hena Khan interview live and ask her questions via Skype. You can view the full episode on the Belvedere website. Many thanks to the staff of Meet the Author who provided the books and the opportunity.
- Author Tracey Kyle visited with our first-grade students about her new book Alpaca Patti and her Fancy Fleece. Alexandria-based bookstore Hooray for Books sold Ms. Kyle’s books to students. Tracey Kyle is a Spanish teacher in FCPS and provided a bilingual visit for our students.
These two author visits were free opportunities provided to us, and our PTA has funded author visits for all students forthcoming in the spring semester. We are excited for our students to participate in these opportunities!
We hope you are enjoying this wonderful fall weather!
Sincerely,
Cecilia Vanderhye, Principal
Kelly Cabezas, Assistant Principal
