 Kindergarten Storybook Character Day 2019
NNAT2 Testing – November 11 – 15
The Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test Third Edition (NNAT3) will be administered to students in first grade and select students in grades 2 – 6 who do not have a NNAT3 test score on file. Some students will be deferred from testing based on their English Language Proficiency level and semesters enrolled within Fairfax County Public Schools. This assessment will take place between November 11 and November 15. It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child has had a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing.
The NNAT3 is a nonverbal measure of general intellectual ability. The test evaluates a student’s reasoning and problem-solving skills through the identification of patterns involving geometric shapes and pictorial designs. The test is designed to assess ability without requiring the student to read, write, or speak. Students are not expected to know the answers to all questions and will be given opportunities to practice sample items before taking the test. The NNAT3 is an abilities test, so children are not expected to study or prepare for the test the way they would for an achievement test.
Score reports will be provided to parents once scores become available. Typically, these reports are available several months after the test is taken. If you have any questions about this test, please contact the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), Jessica Brenneman.
Veteran’s Day – November 11
Next Monday, November 11th is Veterans Day. As always, Crestwood will celebrate this wonderful day. Students should wear Red, White, and Blue to help commemorate Veterans Day.
In honor of Veterans Day, we are asking all students to color an American flag that can be hung in the cafeteria as a display. Students can write the names of service members in their families on the flag, write what Veteran’s Day means to them, or even attach pictures to the flag.
Sargent Rhea Tucker (our Music Teacher) and members of the 380th Army Band will be playing as students and parents arrive to school on Monday. This will be an honor for everyone to hear! Please be sure to thank them for their service! Students will be participating in various activities throughout the day to honor Veterans Day.
Thanksgiving Break – November 27 – 29
Students do not have school on November 27 – 29 to celebrate Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a national holiday which occurs every year on the fourth Thursday of November. This is a special time when families get together to eat a special meal, spend time together, and reflect on all the things they are thankful for. We often get caught up in our day to day lives of work, responsibilities around the house and with our kids, and all of the things we must do. We often forget to take the time to reflect on the things we are thankful for such as the people who support us and brighten our days.
The Crestwood Elementary School faculty and staff are tremendously thankful for all that our families do to support our school and their children’s learning. It truly takes a partnership between home and school to make the greatest impact on the learning and growth of our students. Thank you for encouraging your students to come to school each and every day. Thank you for helping them to complete homework and to read every night. Thank you for attending parent teacher conferences and continuing to communicate with teachers throughout the school year. Thank you for encouraging your students to have positive behavior and to show their best effort while at school. Thank you for attending parent workshops, PTA Meetings and family events. We truly could not do this without your help, and we are extremely thankful for all that you do.
We are especially thankful for your children. We love to see their smiling faces as they come to school each day ready to learn and grow. They are why we love our jobs and coming to school each day. We wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
Save the Date – Literacy Night Workshop - Thursday, December 5th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm
We will be having a Literacy Night Workshop at Crestwood. Come join in the celebration of reading and writing. There will be activities and games where parents can participate with their children to support their enjoyment and development of literacy skills. We’ll be playing word games, writing and listening to stories, reading poetry, reinforcing comprehension strategies, and exploring literacy websites.

Exámenes NNAT2 – Desde el 11 hasta el 15 de noviembre
La tercera Edición de los Exámenes de Habilidad No Verbal de (NNAT3) será administrada a los estudiantes de primer grado y algunos estudiantes de segundo a sexto grado que no tienen una calificación de NNAT3 en sus archivos. Algunos estudiantes no harán estos exámenes debido a su nivel del idioma ingles y los semestres inscritos en las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Fairfax. Esta evaluación se estará realizando entre el 11 al 15 de noviembre. Es importante que su hijo/a asista a la escuela en estos días. Si es posible, por favor evite programar viajes o citas que sacarían a su hijo/a de la escuela durante este periodo de tiempo. También es importante que su hijo/a se vaya a la cama temprano y desayune algo saludable antes de los exámenes.
El NNAT3 es una medida no verbal de la capacidad intelectual general. Este examen evalúa los estudiantes en cómo son sus habilidades de razonamiento y resolución de problemas a través de la identificación de patrones que involucran formas geométricas y diseños pictóricos. Este examen esta desinado para evaluar la capacidad del estudiante sin requerir que el estudiante tenga que leer, escribir o hablar. No se espera que los estudiantes sepan las respuestas de todas las preguntas y se les dará la oportunidad de practicar antes de tomar el examen. El NNAT3 es un examen de habilidades, por lo que no se espera que los estudiantes estudien o se preparen para el examen como lo harían para los exámenes de rendimiento.
Se le proporcionara el reporte de puntajes una vez que esté disponible. Por lo general estos informes están disponibles varios meses después de la prueba. Si tiene alguna pregunta sobre este examen puede comunicarse con la profesora de Recursos Académicos Avanzados (AART), Jessica Brenneman.
Día de los Veteranos – 11 de noviembre
El próximo lunes 11 de noviembre es el Día de los Veteranos. Como siempre, Crestwood estará celebrando este maravilloso día. Los estudiantes deben usar ropa de color rojo, blanco y azul para ayudar a conmemorar el Día de los Veteranos.
En honor al Día de los Veteranos, les pedimos a todos los estudiantes que coloreen una bandera estadunidense que se pueda colgar en la cafetería como una exhibición. Los estudiantes pueden escribir los nombres de familiares que hacen parte del servicio, pueden también escribir lo que significa para ellos ese día o incluso pegar imágenes en la bandera.
El lunes La Sargenta Rhea Tucker (nuestra profesora de música) y miembros de la banda Army 380th tocarán como a las 8:30 de la mañana mientras que los estudiantes y padres estén llegando a la escuela. Va hacer un honor poder escucharlos! Por favor asegúrese de agradecerles por su servicio! Los estudiantes participarán en varias actividades durante el día para honrar a todos nuestros Veteranos en su Día.
Vacaciones de Acción de Gracias – 27 al 29 de noviembre
Los estudiantes no tendrán escuela desde el 27 al 29 de noviembre para celebrar el Día de Acción de Gracias. El Día de Acción de Gracias es un feriado que ocurre todos los años en el cuarto jueves del mes de noviembre. Ese es un día muy especial donde toda la familia se reúne a comer una comida especial, pasar un tiempo junto y reflexionar sobre todas las cosas por la que estamos agradecidos. A menudo nos envolvemos completamente en nuestra vida cotidiana de trabajo, responsabilidades en la casa y con nuestros hijos y con todas las cosas que día a día tenemos que hacer. Nos envolvemos tanto que se nos olvida tomarnos un momento y pensar en todas las cosas que debemos estar agradecidos sobretodo todas esas personas que nos apoyan y alegran nuestros días.
La Facultad y el personal de la Escuela Elemental de Crestwood están tremendamente agradecidos por todo lo que nuestras familias hacen para apoyar nuestra Escuela y el aprendizaje de sus hijos. Realmente se necesita tener una asociación entre la casa y la escuela para lograr el mayor impacto en el aprendizaje y el crecimiento de nuestros estudiantes. Gracias por motivar a nuestros estudiantes a venir a la escuela todos los días. Gracias por ayudarlos hacer las tareas y a leer todas las noches. Gracias por asistir a las conferencias de padres y profesores y también gracias por comunicarse con los profesores durante todo el año escolar. Muchas gracias por motivar a los estudiantes a tener un comportamiento positivo y mostrar su mejor esfuerzo mientras están en la escuela. Gracias por participar en reuniones y talleres para padres de familia, por participar en las reuniones del PTA y en todos los eventos familiares. Nosotros realmente no podríamos hacer todo esto sin la ayuda de todos ustedes. Nosotros estamos extremadamente agradecidos por todo lo que ustedes hacen. Nosotros estamos especialmente agradecidos por sus hijos. Nos encanta ver sus caras sonrientes cuando vienen a la escuela todos los días listos para aprender y crecer. Esa es la razón por la cual nos encanta nuestro trabajo y nos encanta venir a la escuela todos los días. Le deseamos a usted y a toda su familia unas maravillosas vacaciones de Acción de Gracias.
Noche de Taller de Alfabetización – jueves 5 de diciembre desde las 6:00 hasta las 7:30pm
Tendremos un Taller de Noche de Alfabetización en Crestwood. Ven y únete a la celebración de la lectura y la escritura. Tendremos actividades y juegos donde los padres pueden participar con sus hijos para apoyar el disfrute y desarrollo de habilidades con la lectura y escritura. Vamos a jugar juegos de palabras, escribir y escuchar historias, leer poesía, reforzar estrategias de compresión y explorar sitios web de alfabetización.
