If you know your child will be missing full days of school the week of November 25th, please call the attendance line to let us know now.

The attendance line is 703-503-4800.

2. Final Weekend: Letters to Sala

This is the final weekend for Woodson Drama Department's Fall production, Letters to Sala.  Performances are tonight and Saturday, November 9th.

Adapted from the book Sala’s Gift by Ann Kirschner and based on a true account, Letters to Sala is a remarkable story of a young girl's survival during wartime Germany. Five years. Seven Nazi labor camps. Over 350 hidden letters. Sala Garncarz Kirschner kept her secret for over fifty years, concealing her incredibly painful history in a Spill and Spell box. Everything changes when Sala reveals the cache to her grown daughter, Ann.

Tickets are available online at www.wtwdrama.org.

The Connection Newspaper featured a story on Woodson's production.

3. Federal Impact Aid Forms

Federal Impact Aid forms were due last week.  If you have not seen this form, please have your teen ask for another form to bring home so that you can complete and return to the main office.  FCPS requires 100% of forms to be completed, signed and returned.  Calls and emails will be sent to parents whose forms are not returned today in order to achieve the required 100% participation.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3 and sign the form.  All forms were due today. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

4. Food Deliveries

No commercial food deliveries can be made to Woodson students during the school day.  This includes deliveries from local restaurants and delivery services like Uber Eats and Grubhub.  If food is delivered, the student cannot pick it up until dismissal.

If your child forgets his/her lunch, food may be dropped off by a family member to Woodson's Main Office for student pickup.

Gratitude Poster

November is a month of Gratitude!  This banner was displayed between the cafeterias for students to write on post-it notes what they are grateful for.

5. Environmental Club Tree Planting

Volunteers are needed to help the Environmental Club and Fairfax ReLEAF plant native trees near Pat Cunningham stadium on Saturday, November 9th from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.  There is no need to sign up ahead of time; just show up to help!

Please bring gardening gloves, water, and a shovel if you have one.  Extra shovels will be available.  Contact Woodson science department chair and Environmental sponsor Lauren Kinne at lwkinne@fcps.edu.

6. Technology Support Fee

As a reminder, the technology support fee for the FCPSOn student laptop was billed via MySchoolBucks on Monday, November 4th.  For more information about this technology support fee, please visit the FCPSOn site.

7. Report Card Distribution

Report cards will be distributed through 7th period classes on Friday, November 15th.  Students who do not have a 7th period class may pick up their report cards in Student Services starting on Friday, November 15th.

8. Activating Weekly Progress Reports

If you have registered for SIS ParentVUE and have a primary email address recorded in ParentVUE, you can receive your student’s Weekly Progress Report via email. This report provides a summary of your student’s grades for the current quarter.

To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE account and verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab. If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports, and click on “Update account.”

Once your email is confirmed, return to the “My Account” tab to activate and select your preferences for receiving these reports. Emails will be sent according to your selected preferences. Weekly Progress Reports for all of your middle and high school students will be included in one email. For additional help, refer to the quick reference guide for FCPS parents/guardians.

Peggy Linski Honored

Dr. Floyd presents Woodson librarian, Peggy Linski with the FCPS Cares certificate last Monday.

9. Woodson Librarian Honored

Congratulations to Woodson Librarian, Peggy Linski on being recognized as the September 2019 FCPS Cares Recipient of the Month for Region 5 by the Department of Human Resources.

Below is the write up submitted by Ms. Sarah Mahan, an FCPS colleague of Ms. Linski.

I am a new librarian at Edison High School. Peggy Linski (Head Librarian at Woodson HS) came over on her own time during the summer to help me set up the library at Edison. She spent countless hours helping me weed the collection, sorting, and tagging the fiction section into genres to make it easier for students to find books they love. She also mentored me on the best way to set up the library to create a welcoming, safe space for all of Edison's students. On behalf of Edison and myself, I want to thank Peggy for freely giving her time during the summer to help another school and another librarian create a great library space for the school.
