WTW PTSO WeMail - November 5

Today is Election Day

There are some very important local races this year including both of Woodson's FCPS school board representatives and all three at-large school board members.  Here is a full list of candidates' forums to hear from candidates in different races.

Seniors can earn volunteer hours for Government class by volunteering at these sanctioned events.

November PTSO Meeting

Mark your calendar now and join us for the November PTSO meeting on Tuesday, November 12th at 7 p.m. in the Library.  We will be reviewing and voting on the grants applications.

This is also a great opportunity to hear straight from WTW administration about how things are going at school and ask them any questions. We are fortunate that Dr. Floyd, and often an Assistant Principal, make it a priority to attend our meetings each month.

Note:  The PTSO will not hold a meeting in December.

Federal Impact Aid Forms

Federal Impact Aid forms were sent home last week and were due today.  Please complete the form promptly and have your teen return it to their 7th Period teacher.  FCPS requires 100% of forms to be completed, signed and returned.  Calls and emails will be sent to parents whose forms are not returned today in order to achieve the required 100% participation.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3 and sign the form.  All forms were due last week. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Milk & Cookies - Huge Thank You!

Thank you to Meera Pillai, parent volunteer, Terri Hobson WTW staff, and the many parents who donated cookies for last Friday's milk and cookies.

This Woodson tradition is an opportunity to celebrate our students and show them positive community support.  The students have worked hard this first quarter and we hope they enjoyed this treat!

For the first round of regionals, the Woodson Girls Varsity field hockey team played host to the Falls Church Jaguars.  First half goals were scored by Allie Maahs, Gwyneth Durosko, Zoe Hite, and Senior Anabel Heisley.  Elia Kim made an impact in the midfield and Maria Fruchterman had several interceptions and attacking passes.  Makayla Mastal, Mae Cooke, and Tamara Nguyen kept things moving in the midfield.  Following halftime, goals were scored by Senior Margaret Stephan, Durosko, and Katie Williams.  Final, 7-0.  Cavs win.

The Lady Cavs met the South County Stallions in the regional quarter final.  It was the Stallions to light up the scoreboard first.  The seniors stepped up the offense as Bridget Cassata found Izzy Gonzalez who passed to Margaret Stephan for the goal.  The contest was even at one a piece at halftime.  The seniors continued to lead by example with Stephan finding the back of the net once again and Anna Stribling dealing the final blow.  Final, 3-1.  Cavs win.
