We had strong Louise Archer support for the Nats!
From the Principal's Desk:
This time of year provides so many opportunities for us to join together to recognize all the things we are thankful for and how we can contribute to our school and community. Let’s continue to find ways to give back to our community in ways that model what we value the most. Our SCA and Jr. Optimist Club works hard to find, promote, and complete service learning projects throughout the year. A current project is underway to support the Special Love organization which helps children with cancer. It is such a pleasure to see our students taking an active role in providing service to the community.
Progress Reports
Students will receive a progress report in their Tuesday folder on Tuesday, November 12th. Thanks to all the parents who were able to attend a conference during the past several weeks or on the upcoming workdays.
From our music teachers, Mr. Cator and Ms. Dini:
We’ve had a great start to the year so far in General Music! In the first quarter, we assessed our students on their Singing and Movement Standards. Each grade level worked on a dance, or a Move It! activity, and have been doing a fantastic job. In our primary grades, we have been working with our students on singing solos in class, and also creating their own melodies.
In the second quarter we will be focusing on instrument playing and music literacy. Please encourage your students in 4th-6th grade to practice their recorders at home, though do know that we are available by appointment before and after school for additional help with their playing. For our 3rd graders, they are extremely excited to be starting their recorder instruction over the coming weeks.
At the beginning of October we held auditions and accepted applications for this year’s 6th grade musical, Mary Poppins Jr. We have already met with our Student Directors and Stage Managers to prepare for rehearsals. Next week we will be jumping head first into our rehearsal process learning music with the Ensemble and Main Cast, and discussing set and prop ideas with the Stage Crew.
This year our choruses were once again selected to perform for the Vienna Tree Lighting on Monday, December 2nd and the National Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 20th. These opportunities are always a great way to showcase some of our students’ talents on the local and national levels!
