Principal Message 10.30.19

Daugherty

Dear Beech Tree Families,

Tomorrow we will have our annual “Character Day Parade” after all buses have arrived. Ms. Lopez and I are hoping it’s a bit chilly tomorrow, as we plan to surprise our students in our “furry” costumes that honor this year’s Disney Musical, “The Jungle Book!”

Thank you for helping to remind our students of the importance of hand-washing! I am hopeful we are all getting past some of those pesky viruses. Now we are entering that time of year when students may be having sleep overs and indoor “end of season” parties. With those fun celebrations, uninvited visitors we call, “Lice” or just plain “Itchy! Itchy! Itchy!” tend to show up. I am attaching a Health Department link as a friendly reminder to keep those uninvited guests from joining us at school. https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services/lice-treatment-and-prevention

Tomorrow evening, some students from Beech Tree ES and our surrounding area will choose to go “Trick-Or-Treating.” This link has some great reminders for us all: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/news2/halloween-guide/

This weekend is also when “Daylight Saving Time” will end. It’s time to “Fall Back.” Please remember to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night before going to bed. I am sharing a link to an article that was written a few days ago and may help you help our students adjust to the time change. If you figure it out, will you please let me know? “Daylight Saving Time” and I are not friends. I believe sleep is a beautiful thing that should not be disturbed during any season of the year…  https://drcraigcanapari.com/daylight-savings-time-and-your-child-falling-back/

This month, we are collecting gently used books for our Early Childhood Fair on Thursday, November 21st , which will be from 6-7:30pm in our Gym. Please invite any friends and neighbors who have young children. We will host “Playful Learning” along with multiple Falls Church area services such as Fairfax County Office for Children. We have boxes placed in our lobby ready to receive the gently used books for the children to take home at the end of the evening. Thank you for cleaning out your shelves and sharing the love of reading!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 23rd, for our Saturday Morning Family Field Trip to The Smithsonian National Musuem of Natural History. There is just so much to see and learn! Be sure to RSVP when the flyers come home next Wednesday, November 6th.

Mr. Skrtic, our SCA Sponsor, would like to remind us all to get the new “Box Tops App” and scan our grocery store receipt so that Beech Tree ES will instantly get credit for your Box Tops purchases. I used it the other day and it’s quite easy! Here’s a link to help you out: https://www.boxtops4education.com/How%20To%20Earn

I would also like to remind you on behalf of our PTA to link your Harris Teeter and Giant savings cards to Beech Tree ES. We all need groceries, so it’s an easy way for us to get “free money” that comes right back to our students. Thank you for taking the time to visit these two links: Harris Teeter must be done yearly https://www.harristeeter.com/together-in-education and Giant only needs to be done once www.giantfood.com.

As always, thank you for your trust! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Federal Impact Aid Forms

FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned to school as soon as possible. All results are confidential.
