A Message From The Principal
Dear Ravensworth,
As you may know, every year Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) recognizes outstanding employees at all levels. Once again this year, all schools in FCPS are encouraged to nominate an Outstanding Teacher, whose name will then go on to the pyramid level where a Pyramid Outstanding Teacher will be selected. Each of the five Regions will then select their Region Outstanding Teacher, who will serve as the finalists for the coveted FCPS Outstanding Teacher Award.
Schools will also select an Outstanding New Teacher (a teacher within his or her first three years of teaching) and have the option of submitting nominees for the other school-based award categories: Outstanding Principal, Outstanding Leader (e.g. Assistant Principal), Outstanding Professional Employee (e.g. School Counselor, School-Based Technology Specialist, Social Worker, School Psychologist, Technology Support Specialist), and Outstanding Operational Employee (e.g. Office Staff, Instructional Assistant, Custodial Staff, and Food Service Staff). Nominations for Bus Driver will be processed through the transportation department.
We are asking you, the Ravensworth parent and guardian community, to help us gather names for this process. If you would like to nominate a Ravensworth staff member for any of the above awards, please send the name of your nominee and a short paragraph about him or her in an email to Kelsey Green, our awards liaison, at kkgreen@fcps.edu no later than Thursday, November 14th. All responses will be kept confidential. If you are nominating a staff member for the Outstanding Teacher or Outstanding New Teacher award, please address at least two of the following award criteria in your submission to Ms. Green:
- Instills in students a desire to learn and achieve • Understands the individual needs of students, encourages their talents, and fosters their self-esteem • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students • Fosters cooperative relationships and engages with their colleagues and the community • Demonstrates outstanding leadership
We are excited that we can recognize so many outstanding employees. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Kelsey Green at kkgreen@fcps.edu. We would love to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Erika Aspuria
Principal

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact AID
FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid that was sent home with students last week. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are confidential. Learn more about Impact Aid in this short video.
Book Character Day
We are looking forward to our Book Character Day on Thursday, October 31st. Students can dress up like their favorite book character. To ensure the safety of your child and others please no masks, no scary costumes, no weapons, or face painting.
Bravery Breakfast
On November 11th from 8:00am to 8:30am, Ravensworth Elementary will be having a Bravery Breakfast to honor our veterans, active duty military, and reservists. We would love to proudly display the student-colored flags we sent home in the Wednesday folders that showcase our many connections to military families. When you sign up, please indicate how many children and adults are coming, including: students, siblings that may not attend Ravensworth, parents, and the service member. We will be serving a light breakfast.
Please RSVP here by November 4th! You can RSVP using this link https://qrgo.page.link/GsRZc
Positivity Project
This week our students are learning about Creativity. The Positivity Project defines creativity as – you come up with new and original ways to think about and do things. Our daily news show has featured videos and quotes to reflect on this trait. During the week of November 4th our students will focus on Bravery. You can extend your child’s learning by going to the Ravensworth website at https://ravensworthes.fcps.edu/about/positivity-project
