We are proud to announce that Woodley Hills ES has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children as a 2019 Purple Star school. The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families.  See the FCPS news item here: Purple Star School

A Fun Way for Your Child to Practice Math

Have your child practice math at home by accessing the math program Dreambox. We purchased this program because not only does it allow your child to practice grade level skills it will also adapt to his or her individual needs. Dreambox is a great way for kids to get math practice in while having fun.

You can get to Dreambox from our website at https://woodleyhillses.fcps.edu/resources/student and having your child use their standard FCPS Username and Password. If they are unsure of their login, please contact your student’s teacher.

GeoPlunge

Pictures

The Woodley Hills Elementary GeoPlunge team participated in the biannual competition at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, on Monday, October 28th. One of our six teams, Treavor Olmstead, Patrick Stevens, & Allison Alvarez-Garcia, took home 2nd place in the overall competition! One of our students, Erick Yanes Flores, participated on a 'rainbow' team, made up of students from other schools, and was awarded the Sportsmanship Award. Another Woodley Hills team, Louisa Channell, Josephine Channell, & Ever Lopez Ramirez, earned the Teamwork Award.

History:

The GeoPlunge program at Woodley Hills Elementary School started in the Fall of 2018. This fast paced, interactive learning game was designed to teach students more about US geography, encourage critical thinking, social interaction, & self-confidence. Children in grades 4-6 have the opportunity to compete against other students in the Washington DC area. Woodley Hills is currently one of only two Fairfax County schools participating in the competition. We would like to thank our parent volunteers: Karen Olmstead, Patti Stevens, Heather Vann, & Sarah Lambert McConachie for counting to support our students!
