Attendance Matters!
Attendance drives everything! It is tied to almost every aspect of school performance and future outcomes.
Consider:
-
Families should avoid extended vacations that require children to miss school. Try to line up vacations with the school’s schedule. The same goes for doctor’s appointments.
-
Develop homework and bedtime routines that allow for 8 ½ to 9 ½ hours of sleep. Make sure that when the lights go out, so do the cell phones, video games, and computers.
-
Get to know teachers and administrators. School officials can help you stay on top of academic progress and social contacts to make sure your child is staying on track.
Pyramid PTSA Meeting
Are you looking to connect with parents from other schools in the Falls Church Pyramid? Are you curious about the programming offered at Luther Jackson Middle School? Do you want to hear all about the fantastic work happening at Falls Church High School? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we have the event for you!
The Falls Church Pyramid principals invite you to join us for a Falls Church Pyramid gathering on Wednesday, November 6 from 7:00-8:00pm at Falls Church High School (Cafeteria; please enter through Door #7). All parents are invited.
During our time together, you will meet the principals from surrounding Falls Church Pyramid elementary, middle, and high schools and get a sneak peek into what Luther Jackson and Falls Church High School have to offer.
We hope to see you there!
ATTENDANCE IS NOW ONLINE!
We are happy to announce that you can now submit absences for your student on our website! https://fallschurchhs.fcps.edu/
DO NOT use the online form OR the attendance line if you are picking your student up early. Please send them to the main office with a note or call the main office at 703-207-4000.
We will still be accepting absences and late arrivals on the attendance line at 703-207-4019, but you do not have to call if you used the online form.
Impact Aid Forms
Beginning this week, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. These forms will be distributed through all 3rd period classes on Monday, October 28th. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 8th. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

School Bond Referendum to be Held on November 5 Ballot
A school bond referendum will be on the general election ballot Tuesday, November 5. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents of Fairfax County may vote if they are 18 years or older on Election Day and have registered to vote 22 days prior to the election (on or before October 15, at 5 p.m.).
The building and renovation of schools is not financed through the school system’s operating funds, but through bonds. Similar to an individual or a family obtaining a mortgage on a residence to spread the cost of home buying over a number of years, bonds spread the cost of major capital improvements over a number of years.
As long as debt service costs do not increase significantly as a percentage of combined general fund disbursements, the county’s bonded debt will not be a contributing factor to any increase in local taxes.
Get more information about the school bond referendum.
Parents of Seniors – FAFSA support
While your senior is likely thinking about college applications, you may be focused on how to pay for it. We encourage all families to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Ms. Foster hosted an evening program earlier this month, check with her to find out what you missed.
We are excited to welcome Heather Walrath, a Financial Aid Champion to Falls Church High School. She works with College Access Fairfax, a non-profit, to support families in completing the FAFSA form. She is in the building on Fridays from 9:30am-1pm (excluding Nov. 1) and can meet with students and/or parents to help complete the long and tedious FAFSA form. She is located in Student Services.
If you would like to set up a specific appointment time, contact Renee Foster or Jessica Grenfell. She is also available on Tuesday, November 5th by appointment only.
The FAFSA became available to submit October 1, 2019 and the sooner you complete, the better.
