Federal Impact Aid Forms

Federal Impact Aid forms were sent home last week.  Please complete the form promptly and have your teen return it to their 7th Period teacher.  FCPS requires 100% of forms to be completed, signed and returned.  Calls and emails will be sent to parents whose forms are not returned by November 1st in order to achieve the required 100% participation.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3 and sign the form.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by Friday, November 1, 2019. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Fall Sports Highlights

For the Patriot District semi-final, Woodson Girls Varsity field hockey hosted the Robinson Rams.  Audrey Fisher and Zoe Hite each scored from the field.  Gwyneth Durosko took the stroke (think soccer penalty kick) to notch a third.  Senior Margaret Stephan connected with Katie Williams for another.  Stephan then recorded a goal for herself.  Senior Anna Stribling scored the final goal of the night.  The back line of Senior Bridget Cassata, Annika McGinn, Kyleigh Poot, and Emmy Rummel were solid all night.  Final, 6-0.  Cavs win.

Woodson hosted Fairfax for the District final.  The game was end-to-end with both teams having chances including a frame rattling shot by Woodson.  With as much offense on display, the score remained even at 0 through half-time.  In the second half, Fairfax scored what was to be the first and only goal of the evening  Handing the Lady Cavs their first defeat of the season.  Standout defensive work came in the second half off the stick of Senior Rachel Hartzler who provided several interceptions and tackles.  Senior Izzy Gonzales played a standout offensive game by feeding balls from the midfield to the wings.  A tough result, but the Lady Cavs played a great team game.  On to Regionals!

Woodson Girls Varsity Volleyball won the last regular season game on Tuesday night against Fairfax 3-0! Jordan Lyons, Aubree Reasor, Anna Lee and Yanna Willett all served up beautiful aces. Amy Burkhardt was solid defense getting numerous digs in the back row. Middle Ruthie Ridderhoff led the team in blocks and with Jordan Lyons and Maja Zuber had kills that carried the team to the win. Setter Erin McPhilomy did a superb job placing the ball so our hitters could get those kills. Our Lady Cavs enter the district playoffs this week in second place after a season culminating in a record of 20-4 overall and 7-3 in the region. Every single player on this team has been an important part of this success story and contributed to this great season both on and off the court. The first playoff game is Monday, October 28 at 7:00pm at Woodson. Come on fans, don your red, white and blue and get to the gym to cheer your extremely talented home team on to victory!!! They are on a roll with a seven game winning streak. Let's get behind our our girls and make it EIGHT!
