Red Ribbon Week begins Monday

Red Ribbon Week is October 28- November 1

Greetings, Forestdale Families!

Forestdale Elementary will be taking part in a week-long national celebration of Red Ribbon Week from October 28 to November 1 with a spirit week (see below).

The purpose of Red Ribbon Week is to remind students to maintain a healthy lifestyle by refraining from drugs or participating in other harmful activities.  During this week, spend some time to talk about the benefits of living a healthy life that is free from alcohol and drugs.

Red Ribbon Week started in 1985 as a means of honoring D.E.A. Agent Enrique Camarena, who lost his life in the line of duty; the week was designed to create an awareness concerning the problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.

Today, Red Ribbon Week has grown into a national observation – a time for schools and communities across the nation to come together in the fight against drugs.  The national theme this year is “Send a Message.  Stay Drug Free."

At Forestdale, we will focus on the many aspects of health and safety.  You can take advantage of this time to open a dialogue at home and discuss issues like peer pressure and making the right choices for a healthy future!
