From the Principal's Desk....

Dear Family Fairfax,

Next week marks the end of the first quarter.  Students are scurrying to make up assessments while teachers are finalizing grades.  I was told by my student advisory group this morning, that for our seniors, it is also the deadline for college applications—I am sure that our senior parents have been having loads of “fun” at home. I remember those days vividly…next up, college admissions letters.  Trust me, that can be another emotional rollercoaster at home, so hold on tight, and remember to keep telling your student to breathe.  It will work out in the end.

An interesting topic came up from the seniors on my advisory group.  Their advice to the underclassmen was to get involved, find something you enjoy, and spend time enjoying it.  Also, one of the members gave the advice to keep a running list of ideas you have and activities you participate in, from freshmen year, even recommending each student just have a personal Google Doc where you are keeping this information.  Our parent coffee group often gives advice to each other, and it was fun to hear our student advisory group doing the same thing.  It’s moments like these where I realize that we are all in this together!

We have put together a double-sided cardstock of important information about Fairfax High School that should be in the main office in the coming weeks.  Should you be in the building, feel free to pick one up!  You’ll find attendance procedures, subschool information and more!  Speaking of subschools, I have asked our APs to begin contributing to our weekly message.  You may have noticed last week we included news from one of our subschools beneath my message, so you can get to know the administrative team, and we can celebrate even more of our students!

The tears of our volleyball seniors are still on my mind from this week as are the voices of our choral students and the smiles of our newest Patriot District Champs, our Field Hockey team.  I watched the tremendous athleticism of our Cross Country team at Burke Lake yesterday, and our Ladies Golf Team will be moving onward to states! All that good news and tonight, I get to celebrate the senior nights of so many of our athletes and band members.  Tomorrow, our Marching Fairfax Band will perform at Patriot High School, and I hope to be there to cheer them on!

Phew…it is GREAT to be at Fairfax.

With Participation Respect Integrity Determination Empathy,

Erin B. Lenart, Ed.D.

News from Sub School 3

Welcome to Sub-school 3! It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself to Fairfax High families. This is my twenty-third year at Fairfax High School. I began my career at FHS as a Social Studies teacher and went on to serve as a Department Chair and Dean of Students. I am now in my eighth year as an assistant principal and serve as the administrator for sub-school 3 working with students whose last names begin with Lef through Ras.  I am the administrator for the class of 2021 and oversee the Social Studies and Art Departments and the Attendance Office.

Sub-school 3 can be found in room D127 in the back of the building near the Social Studies classes. Mrs. Blanca Sanchez is the administrative assistant. Mrs. Sanchez is happy to provide students with a pre-arranged absence forms, homecoming dance forms and applications for CUE bus pass and to answer any questions your student may have. The school counselors who serve our sub-school are Tara Johnson, Aja Adu-Gyamfi, and Tierra Sharpe and our Dean of Students is Justina Copeland.

Please feel free to contact me whenever you have questions or concerns. My direct line is 703-219-2225 or e-mail, mekeck@fcps.edu.
