Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

Two important things for all families today… Impact Aid Form and Thanksgiving Lunch.

The Impact Aid Form is coming home with your child today, please complete it today and send it in by this Friday.  We are required to have 100% of families to return this form.  Returning this form is important for FCPS because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3,000,000 in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education.  These funds are used to support all Fairfax County schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Thanksgiving Luncheon - If you would like to join your child for lunch on November 21st, we ask that you RSVP so we may have a head count for our kitchen manager.  We are asking for you to RSVP by this Friday, October 26th, RSVP here. There is a modified lunch schedule that day, see below for your child’s lunch time.  We are also asking for volunteers to make this a successful event.  We have included the volunteer sign up below as well.  Hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
Erica Riley, Principal
Meredith Mitchell, Assistant Principal

STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID

Beginning on October 21, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Parent Handbook--

Parents, grandparents and siblings are always invited to come and eat with a student, as it is a special occasion for the entire class.  Visitors typically either purchase lunch from the cafeteria or bring a bag lunch from home.  It is nice for the student to see that grownups also eat nutritious lunches.  We ask that you do not bring in soft drinks or 'fast food' lunches.  The sale of soft drinks student is prohibited in all Fairfax County Public Schools, from elementary through high school during the school day.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Storybook

It’s time for the Stenwood Library Storybook Pumpkin Festival!

What is the Storybook Pumpkin Festival?
Students pick a storybook character, decorate (not carve) a pumpkin, and create 3 clues so people can guess who it is (put the answer on the back, along with student name).  Bring your pumpkin to the library any time between October 21-November 1st.   This is a great way to learn about books you haven’t read and for Stingers to share their love of books!

Nancy Cole, Librarian
