Digital Citizenship Wednesday at Lees Corner

Digital Citizenship Spirit Week

WEDNESDAY is “LEI” OFF of TECHNOLOGY DAY!

Today we encouraged students to “Take a Break from Screens and Connect in Person More”.  Many students and staff are wearing Hawaiian clothing as they think about and discuss how to be more present with friends and family members and let go of technology.

At home, students and families are encouraged to practice media balance by taking a break from screens to engage in real-world experiences and quality time with their friends and family. We ask that you consider using one of the following ideas to connect in person with friends and family.

  • Have a device-free dinner and focus on connecting as a family.
  • Take on a Phone-Free Day challenge as a family and commit to leaving the phone at home when family members go to school or work.  Notice how your day changes and discuss the benefits and challenges together.
  • Have a family board game night instead of playing video games or watching TV.
  • Make a phone call or write a letter to a family member or friend instead of sending a text or email.
  • Spend time outside as a family and leave the phone behind.

THURSDAY is ACTIVE WEAR DAY!

On Thursday, October 24, 2019 we encourage students to “Exercise Healthy Technology Habits”.  On this day students may wear workout clothing as they think about and discuss what health technology habits they can try.

At home, students and families are encouraged to exercise healthy tech practices such as managing notification settings and turning off screens an hour before bedtime. We ask that you consider using one of the following ideas to focus on the use of high quality media.
