"Checking Out" using the new Library Check-Out System
Federal Impact Aid Surveys
Beginning on October 21, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
Surveys will be sent home in your childs THT folder. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are confidential.

Fairfax Villa/FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards
As you may know, every year Fairfax County Public Schools recognizes outstanding employees at all levels. Again, this year, all schools in FCPS are encouraged to nominate an Outstanding Teacher whose name will then go on to the pyramid level where a Pyramid Outstanding Teacher will be selected. Each of the five Regions will then select their Region Outstanding Teacher who will serve as the finalists for the coveted Fairfax County Public Schools Outstanding Teacher Award.
In addition to that award, Fairfax Villa will also select an Outstanding New Teacher (a teacher within his or her first three years of teaching) and have the option of submitting nominees for the other school-based award categories: Outstanding Leader (Assistant Principal), Outstanding Professional Employee (School Counselor, Social Worker, School Psychologist, Technology Support Specialist, Math Resource Teacher, Reading Resource Teacher, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech and Language Teacher, Adapted PE Teacher, and Assistive Technology Teacher), and Outstanding Operational Employee (Office Staff, Instructional Assistant, Custodial Staff, Food Service Staff, Parent Liaison, and other Hourly Employees).
If you would like to nominate a Fairfax Villa staff member for any of the above awards, please send the name of your nominee and a short paragraph about him or her in an email to Barbara Schmidt at bdschmidt@fcps.edu no later than Friday, November 1. All responses will be kept confidential. If you are nominating a staff member for the Outstanding Teacher or Outstanding New Teacher award, please address at least two of the following award criteria in your submission to Ms. Schmidt:
- Instills in students a desire to learn and achieve. • Understands the individual needs of students, encourages their talents, and fosters their self-esteem. • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students. • Fosters cooperative relationships and engages with their colleagues and the community. • Demonstrates outstanding leadership.
We will also be nominating Mr. Dave Gerstner for the Outstanding New Principal award. Unlike the other award categories, this nomination goes straight to the Region. If you would like to add your thoughts to this nomination, please send them to our awards liaison Barbara Schmidt at bdschmidt@fcps.edu by Friday, November 1.
The criteria for that award are for new principals who:
- Gather, analyze and use data for student achievement.
- Communicate a clear vision for school improvement and stakeholder engagement.
- Maintain effective discipline and foster a safe environment for students and staff.
- Exhibit effective communication skills when working with staff and community members.
- Model professionalism and promote the professional growth of others.
- Contribute to one or more of the following Ignite Goals, in the FCPS Strategic Plan
- Student Success
- Caring Culture
- Premier Workforce
- Resource Stewardship
We are excited that we can recognize so many outstanding employees. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact our school awards liaison Barbara Schmidt at bdschmidt@fcps.edu.
