1. Military Appreciation Cookout and Varsity Football Game

Friday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m Woodson will pay tribute to the brave men and women of the Armed Forces during its varsity football game versus the West Springfield Spartans, at Pat Cunningham Stadium.

All current and former military members with an ID are encouraged to attend, and will receive free general admission. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with a cook out for our Military Families prior to the game at 5:30 p.m.  The Army will have fun activities such as a basketball.  We will have Woodson High School Military Appreciation shirts for families to purchase for $10 as well.

It is a “Camo Out” so wear your Camouflage in support of all military men and women who have served and continue to serve our Country! #CAVSTRONG! #oneWoodson!

We still need volunteers for clean-up!  To SignUp to volunteer with the cookout, please sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050c44a8a62ca64-military

2. Woodson Fall Festival

The Woodson SGA Leadership class is hosting their annual Fall Fest, a fun day for kids of all ages, on Saturday, October 26th from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., and will be located on the Woodson outdoor basketball courts, outside door 7 on the side of the school.  (In case of inclement weather, Fall Fest will be held in the Auxiliary Gym).

There will be Halloween themed games and crafts such as pumpkin painting, a moon bounce, candy, and much more! Be sure to wear your best costume!

Any questions? Email the Fall Fest committee at wtwfallfest@gmail.com.

3. Federal Impact Aid Forms

On Tuesday, October 22nd during 7th Period, Woodson sent home a Federal Impact Aid form with each student.  Please ask your teen for this form.  Please complete the form promptly and have your teen return it to their 7th Period teacher.  FCPS requires 100% of forms to be returned.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3 and sign the form.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by Friday, November 1, 2019. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

8. Expunge a Course

In accordance with Virginia state regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408 permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student’s high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course. Parents interested in expunging a course and removing the middle school course and associated credit from the high school transcript must make this request no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course.

For current ninth graders, the deadline to complete the expunge request is Friday, November 1st.

Please find the link to the expunge form below. The form outlines the guidelines and procedures for expunging grades for high school courses taken in middle school. If you have questions about expunging a course, please contact your school counselor.

9. Milk & Cookies - End of 1st Quarter

Friday, November 1st - A Woodson fan favorite, Milk & Cookies returns this school year!

Modeled after the poem, "All I Really Need to Know I Learned from Kindergarten," this tradition is an opportunity to celebrate our students and show them positive community support.

We need lots of help from parents to make this event happen.   Please visit the SignUp Genius to sign-up to bring cookies and/or to help us pass out cookies at school dismissal.  We need around 300 dozen to make sure we have enough cookies for all, so please donate generously!

The PTSO donates the milk for this event.  For any questions, please email:  WTWmilkncookies@gmail.com.
