Federal Impact Aid Forms

On Tuesday, October 22nd during 7th Period, Woodson will be sending home a Federal Impact Aid form with each student.  Please ask your teen for this form on Tuesday after school.  Please complete the form promptly and have your teen return it to their 7th Period teacher.  FCPS requires 100% participation for this program.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3 and sign the form.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by Friday, November 1, 2019. Fall Sports Highlights

This week the Woodson Varsity field hockey team was home against Marshall in the final seasonal game.  The game was played at a frenetic pace all over the field.  Chief instigator was senior Anna Stribling who covered the entire field with a constant pressure on the ball.  The first goal of the night credited Zoe Hite with an assist and senior Izzy Gonzales’ the goal.  The second was the result of a chain of assists that ended with an Allie Maahs pass to senior Anabel Heisley who set-up Katie Williams’ finish.  The Lady Cavs went into half-time with a controlling two goal lead.  Stand-out play came from Maahs who played exceptionally tough all night.  Makayla Mastal contributed on both sides of the ball with some nice passes up the sideline and great tackles.  The score remained through the second half.  Final, 2-0.  Cavs win.

Co-Ed Golf - On October 3, senior Amelia Noca competed in the Occoquan Boys Regional Golf qualifier at Laurel Hill Golf Course.  Amelia fired an impressive 80 on an always-challenging course, narrowly missing qualifying for the Boys State tournament.  Competing against a very tough field, Amelia placed in the top 5 among players who were not members of the two teams that qualified (Fairfax and Hayfield).  Amelia, along with sophomore Zara Karim, will compete in the Zone 4A Girls Regional qualifier on October 23, also at Laurel Hill.  Best of luck to both girls as they vie for a chance to play in the Girls State Tournament on October 28 and 29 in Harrisonburg.

Two more wins for Woodson Girls Volleyball this week! The Cavs faced West Springfield last Tuesday and took the win in 3 sets. Jordan Lyons led the team in kills and with Jaden Reasor putting up a strong defense on the back line. Defensive Specialist Rachel Huh bolstered the team to the win with some strong serving. Thursday night was an incredible Senior Night. After a great day of celebrating our seniors Becca Rainey, Maja Zuber, Nicole Gibson, Jordan Lyons, Olivia Guerra, Sarah Leaming, Katie Burruss, Anna Lee and our senior managers Holly Highsmith and Cindy Li, our seniors took the court against Robinson and fought hard. Anna Lee brought great energy to the court and Becca Rainey got two assisted blocks in the first set. Katie Burruss played strong at the net and got a superb kill. Our seniors kept the score very close but ultimately lost the first set. Not defeated in spirit, the ladies played tough taking the Rams to 27-25 for the second set. Olivia Guerra, Maja Zuber and Jordan Lyons were strong all around the court leading to the final 3-1 win. Cavalier Volleyball record is now 19-4 with our district record at 6-3. Our last regular season game: AWAY - Tuesday, Oct 22 - 7:15 -Fairfax High School.  District playoffs will then commence and we are sure to see our Lady Cavs advance as long as they keep playing like they are! Check in at Woodson Sports page to find out game details and come cheer our girls all the way to States!!!
