Mrs. Choate's Chat...

Dear Glen Forest Community,

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather, as I know your children are enjoying being outside every day for 30 minutes for recess! The laughter and smiling faces of your children as they come back into the building just makes my day!

We are very excited to share that on Monday, October 21st, Channel 5 Fox News will be at Glen Forest to highlight the Nationals heading to the World Series. Our understanding is that we will be “live” at 8:45 am, 9:30 am, and between 10:00-10:15 am. We plan to have our eagle and shark mascots join us in the celebration and have our students on the field singing “Baby Shark” to wish the Nationals’ good luck! If your children have a red shirt, please have your children wear it to show support for our hometown team. This is a wonderful way to highlight our amazing school community!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs. Choate

STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID

Beginning on October 21, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

We are happy to continue our tradition of Workout Wednesdays. On Wednesdays, every 90 minutes, our students hear a bell, and for 60 seconds they complete an exercise or workout wherever they are in the building. This is a fun and creative way for us to involve more activity into the students’ day and to workout together as an entire school.

Each week’s workouts will be listed on the school’s public website, along with videos that you can do with your child at home. The students are so excited for this year’s Workout Wednesdays. We highly encourage you to go over the exercises with your children. Physical activity is so important for our students, that making Workout Wednesdays a regular part of the school week is an easy choice.

Glen Forest – Book Fair – October 28 – November 1

Dear Parents and Families:

Did you know? Reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to about 1.8 million words per year. Reading helps students develop a stronger vocabulary, and in addition, students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, mathematics, science, and history!

Mark your calendar to join us for a celebration of reading! Book Fair dates/times: Monday, October 21 – Friday, November 1

PARENT NIGHT – Tuesday, October 29 – 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Visit scholastic.com/fair for more information. We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair!
