A Message from the Principal's

Dear Bonnie Brae,

Yesterday, our school was recognized for working on behalf of all students.  Dr. Brabrand will honor our school's effort and progress to maintain excellence in academic achievement in both reading and math!  Congratulations Scotties! Here is a copy of the letter we received.

Sent on behalf of Jay Pearson, Assistant Superintendent, Region 4

Dear Principal,

Congratulations on being selected to receive the Superintendent’s Excellence in Equity Award.

Dr. Brabrand and the School Board have created a new and very important recognition to celebrate your school’s progress and achievement as we continue to raise the bar and close student achievement gaps.  After a careful analysis of the Division SOL data, your school has earned a Level 1 performance for each reporting group and all gap group indicators in both English and mathematics for the 2018-19 school year.  We are very proud of this accomplishment.

You will be honored at our November Region 4 Principals’ meeting by Drs. Brabrand and Ivey and myself.  There will be a photo opportunity for this recognition.

Congratulations again on your outstanding performance.

Thank you,

Jay

We are deeply honored to have received this recognition. We are even more grateful for the smart, fun, caring and nurturing staff we get to do this work with every single day!

Kind regards,

Mrs. Cage, Principal

Mrs. Bennink, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Killingsworth, Assistant Principal

fall festival

The Book Fair Needs You!

The Fall Book Fair will be held in the Bonnie Brae Library from Monday, October 21 through Friday, October 25.  Each class will be scheduled for a visit to the Fair.  Please feel free to join your child’s class for his or her Book Fair time.  In addition to scheduled class visits, the book fair will be open on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 in conjunction with the Fall Festival.  Book Fair flyers will be going home in Tuesday packets on October 15th.  The back page of the flyer contains information on setting up an eWallet account and directions to our fair’s online website.  If you purchase books off the website, they will be delivered to school after the 25th.

Each year I count on volunteers to help run the fair.  I need assistance on Friday, October 18th after school to set up the fair and on the 25th following the festival to pack it all up.  In addition to those two dates, it is extremely helpful to have week day volunteers to answer the kids questions (i.e. how much does this book cost), tidy up, and help our youngest students create wish lists to bring home.  If you’re able to volunteer, please sign up here (https://volunteer.scholastic.com/#/signup/VzdHZhTRN).

Please feel free to email me at aastevenson@fcps.edu or call 703-321-3918 if you any questions about this year’s fair.

Thanks,

Amy Stevenson
