STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID

Beginning on Oct. 21st, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Digital Citizenship Week

FCPS is celebrating Digital Citizenship Week from October 21-25, 2019! This year’s theme is Media Balance and Well-Being: Developing a Healthy Relationship with Your Technology. Our school is celebrating Digital Citizenship Week with a spirit day and activities focused on developing healthy habits around technology use. Students will have a choice board to select at least one activity a day that matches the daily theme. Parents can also choose to sign up to receive text messages from Common Sense Media with Tips for Health Tech Balance (for children ages 3-8).  Friday is Field Day and every classroom will have a tech free day!! Students will focus on building relationships and healthy habits for using technology.

Picture Re-takes

Picture re-takes will be Thursday, Nov. 7th.  If you wish to have your student’s picture re-taken, return the original picture packet and have your student give this to the photographer.  If you did not purchase a packet and wish to do so on make-up day, please contact the school office for an order form. We will be sending home order forms with those students who were absent on the original picture day.

Annual Veterans Day Ceremony & Thanksgiving Lunch

Nov. 11th, 9:35am. Thanking a Veteran!  The Veterans Day Ceremony is Nov.11th (outside in front of the school). The community is welcome to attend as we pay tribute to our Veterans. Several of our military moms, dads. relatives and friends arrive in their uniforms! The Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts will be participating in the Flag Ceremony and the 6th Grade Advanced Band students will be performing a Patriotic song!

Today all students will be taking home a Veterans Day Ceremony form called "Thank you for Your Service," as well as directions on how to fill it out. Some of our students will be selected to read their letters during the ceremony! We will let you know in advance.

The Thanksgiving Lunch will also be on Nov. 11th.  Parents are encouraged to attend!  You may join your child as they come into the cafeteria for lunch. We will update you soon with further details, the lunch schedule, and a volunteer sign-up link to help in the cafeteria.

Hallway Bathrooms

Parents, we have been seeing a lot of mischievous behaviors throughout our hallway bathrooms this school year:

Toilet paper “decorating”
Writing on the bathroom walls
Feces smeared on the walls
Wet paper towels stuck to the walls & ceilings
Removal of the drain on the bathroom floor as well as toilet paper stuffed in the floor drain

Please talk to your student(s) about respecting school property as well as considering the feelings of others.

School Drop off Times

Parents, please remember that our school is not open for student drop off until 8:50am for patrols and students having breakfast in the cafeteria, and 9:10am for all other students. Thank you.

Hunt Valley PTA

If you haven't joined the PTA, please consider doing so by visiting https://www.huntvalleypta.org. The PTA helps empower, engage, and educate our students, staff, and families and does not ask families to sell cookie dough, wrapping paper or anything else during the year. They are currently in the middle of their direct donation drive - if the goal is reached, Mr. Fee will be duct taped to the wall! Donate today at https://huntvalleypta.memberhub.com

The next PTA meeting will be Nov. 6, 6:30, in the cafeteria, with a guest speaker from FCPS discussing the dangers of vaping in our youth.

The first meeting for the 2019 – 2020 school year is currently scheduled for Monday, October 21st  at 7:00pm.  The meeting will take place in the school library from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. Pumpkin Parade is coming!

Decorate! Get a real pumpkin and turn it into a book character (classic or trendy).  Please don’t cut or pierce the pumpkin as it will be on display and we want it to last.

Describe! Get an index (3x5) card.  Fold it in half into a tent, hamburger style.  On the outside of the tent, write three clues to describe your pumpkin character.  On the inside – so we can’t see it – write your pumpkin character’s name and your child’s name.

Display! Deliver your pumpkin to the library the week of Oct 21-25.  Pumpkins will be displayed until October 31st.  Pick up pumpkins Nov 1-5.  All remaining pumpkins will be returned to the patch on Nov. 6th.

If you need an index card, please stop by the library.
