Westgate Weekly News

Good Afternoon Westgate Families!

I hope this finds you having a wonderful long weekend with family and friends.  This weekend was definitely the perfect opportunity to get outside and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.

This is a reminder that our annual PTA Fall Festival is NEXT Friday, October 25.  Please see below for ways in which you can get involved and help out.  This event is driven solely on volunteers so we encourage you to sign up so our students can enjoy a fun-filled evening with friends, family, and Westgate staff members!

This week, our students will be learning about the Positivity Project strength of integrity.  Having integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching.  When we see random acts of kindness, or students choosing the right decision without our influence, it makes us beyond proud!  Try to find a time this week to see what integrity means to your student.

Thank you for your continued support of all things Westgate and have a fantastic rest of the week ahead!

All my best,

Hallie Demetriades

Fall Festival - Oct. 25

If you have never been to a Westgate Fall Festival before, you’re in for a treat! It is one of the biggest, most fun, most spectacular PTA fundraisers of the school year.  We offer games, raffles, moon bounces, a cake walk, and trick-or-treating. It's a huge party that the children love. If you have any doubt, ask a student who has been before!  Siblings, family members, and friends are welcome at Fall Festival and costumes are encouraged! (Please remember friendly costumes only and no weapons, pretend or otherwise, are allowed on school grounds).   In order to make Fall Festival a success we need a lot of support from our community.  Please click here : PTA FALL FESTIVAL EVENT OVERVIEW 2019.pdf  to see how you can support this great Westgate event.  Below are also direct links to volunteer opportunities.  We look forward to seeing you at Fall Festival on Oct 25th!

Virginia Readers' Choice

books

The Virginia Readers' Choice Program provides students with grade appropriate lists of great books. Students can read these books and cast a vote for a favorite. Schools all over Virginia will be participating in the program to promote great literature and encourage students to become lifelong readers.

The books are available in the Westgate library and the public library. Students should read at least FOUR Virginia Readers’ Choice books by the end of March to participate in voting. Students in grades K – 1 will be given the opportunity to read the books during library time. Students in grades 2 – 6 can check out and read the books on their own time. In April all students will have a chance to vote for their favorite book. Students in grades 2 - 6 will earn a certificate for participating in the program.

Visit https://www.vsra.org/virginia-readers-choice-program for the book list and more information!
