"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

We had a wonderful homecoming week! Below are some photo highlights.

Monday is a student holiday and a teacher planning day. Our teachers will be participating in a day of professional development focused on best instructional practices. Topics include; small group instruction, how to design formative assessments, write to learn strategies, student discourse, data driven instruction, scaffolds and non-fiction reading strategies. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, 10th and 11th grade students will participate in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). In addition to the PSAT, we have a number of activities planned and taking place for our 9th and 12th grade students. This is a two hour early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:55 PM.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or school staff. We are happy to help.

Fairfax County Youth Survey

The Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors work together to administer the Fairfax County Youth Survey. The results of this survey are used by school officials, youth leadership classes, youth-serving county agencies, and local non-profits to determine the effectiveness of prevention and intervention programs offered in schools and communities. The survey is anonymous and no individual information is reported. The survey will be given to students during English class. The survey will be administered between November 6-15, 2019.

If you do not wish for your student to take part in the survey, please complete the opt out form and return it to your student's school counselor no later than November 5, 2019. The link below has additional information about the survey (Fairfax County Youth Survey Information).

Students who are applying to colleges with a November 1st deadline need to submit their requests by October 1st. These reminders are sent in an effort to avoid unnecessary stress. Student Services - College Assistance

Your Justice HS Student Services team provides college, career, financial aid and scholarship counseling for FREE! We are here to help you get through the college process in any way we can. We want all of our students to be successful in their lives after high school, and we'll work as a team with you to make that happen. There are many private companies who offer PAID college and financial aid services to students and their families. They often invite you to attend a "free" workshop, and, at the meeting, they will want you to register for their paid services. They may also say something about how important this meeting is to determine your eligibility for financial aid and admissions, and may promise that their clients always receive financial aid. Please be an informed consumer! Check their ratings from the Better Business Bureau and online and don't sign up for anything without doing your research first. Information on scholarships, financial aid and college can always be found for FREE - you do not need to pay for it. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor.

College Visits

Representatives from the following colleges are visiting Justice HS this week: William & Mary, Boston College, St. Olaf College, Ursinus College, Hood College, Bridgewater College, Virginia Commonwealth University, Clark University, University of Massachusetts - Amherst, Hollins University, Mount St. Joseph University, and Guilford College.
