Principal's Message
Collaborating and building positive relationships are two things that we are continuously working on in school with our students. These are both skills that will contribute to their success in and out of school. We also believe that it is important for us to develop positive relationships and collaborate with our community. Over the next few weeks we have several engaging opportunities available for our community. Please consider joining us for one or all of the following events:
- Supporting our Students in a Digital World - Tuesday, October 22nd
- Principal Coffee - Tuesday, October 22nd
- Student Led Parent - Teacher Conferences - on going
- Family Field Trip - Saturday, November 9th
We look forward to our continued collaboration to ensure that the students of CES are successful!

CES Veterans Day Event
On Monday, November 11th, Veterans Day, Centreville Elementary School would like to honor veterans with a special event at our school. We will have a luncheon prepared in your honor that you will be able to enjoy with your student(s) at CES. Any relatives of our CES students who are veterans are welcome to join us in our event.
We also would like to invite you to read to students in classrooms around our building. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about how you have served and to show their appreciation for your service.
We hope many veterans will be able to attend this special event at CES. If you are interested in reading to students and having lunch with us, please sign up using this form:

Currently, the Family Field Trip is full. If you would like to add your family to the wait-list, please send an e-mail to Josh Douds at jtdouds@fcps.edu.
We are taking our first family field trip of the year! This is a FREE event for the families of CES! We will be traveling to the Blue Ridge Animal Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, November 9th. Families will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with our wild neighbors and learn all about their natural history. This program focuses on animals that live here in Virginia and interesting facts and stories about their lives. Animal guests may include: fox, skunk, opossum, squirrel, bat, snake, turtle, and raptor. This event is free and we will be providing transportation. Students must be accompanied by a family member. Your whole family is welcome! We ask that you arrive at Centreville Elementary School by 8:40 a.m. on November 9th. Please bring snacks and a lunch! We will be leaving promptly at 9:00 am and be returning at 2:00 pm.

Recently, we explored the character traits of Being Present and Giving Others my Attention and Integrity.
WHAT DOES INTEGRITY MEAN?
- You are honest and speak the truth. You present yourself genuinely and sincerely. Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching. People with integrity practice what they preach and maintain a consistent pattern of behavior aligned with their values. They have the courage not to follow the crowd if it means going against their beliefs. Integrity is closely aligned with the terms of honesty and authenticity. People with integrity tell the truth and have alignment in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
- A person who lacks integrity could be described as pretentious, hypocritical, or insincere. They are pretending to be something that they’re not or they’re saying one thing and then doing another. It is important to be able to change your mind (and be open-minded), as you learn and grow. However, the main distinction comes in the intention. Is the person intending to manipulate another? A second important facet is self-awareness. It’s tough to be true to yourself, if you don’t know who you are.

Thank you for your continued partnership!

STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID
Beginning on October 21, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 30. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.
