Dear Parents/Guardians of students in IB and/or AP courses,
Fairfax County Public Schools will continue to pay the exam fees for the first six exams (IB and AP) each student takes during their 4 years of high school. Students choosing to take one or more tests beyond the six FCPS-funded tests will be charged a fee of $119 per IB test and a $94 per AP test. As a result of this new fee structure is the option to “opt-out” of an exam. Students are still responsible for all requirements of the course, they will simply not take the exams in May (and thus will not have the potential for college credit, which comes from exam scores). If a student chooses to opt out of any exams, they must get their opt-out form from Mrs. Bradshaw in the IB Office (located in back of the media center/library). They may contact Mrs. Bradshaw at lmbradshaw@fcps.edu to set up a time to get the form. This form also lists the cumulative tests the student has and will take this school year.
The deadline for returning the opt-out form to Student Services is Friday, October 25th. Forms only need to be returned if a student is opting out of an exam.
Please review the information found at the following link: AP/IB Test Frequently Asked Questions.
Best,
Linda Bradshaw
