Parents/guardians who do not wish to have their child participate in FLE instruction may choose to opt their child out of any or all of the lessons. If you would like to opt your child out of one or more lessons, please fill out the form provided to you in your child’s orientation packet at the beginning of the school year or you may access the opt out forms online at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-family-life-education-fle. October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. This month aims to educate parents and professionals about dyslexia so that children with dyslexia can be identified sooner, receive appropriate instruction, and acquire the support they need to succeed. The School Board will make a formal declaration recognizing October as Dyslexia Awareness Month on September 26, 2019. There are several ways schools may support this initiative:
Digital Citizenship Week: October 21-25. During this week, we will join other FCPS schools in several “spirit days” to remind us about a few important technology ideas. On Monday, October 21, wear a HAT to school to be reminded to “wear your thinking cap and reflect on your technology use.” On Tuesday, October 22, wear ATHLETIC WEAR to be reminded to “exercise healthy technology habits.” On Wednesday, October 23, students will be given a lei and may wear HAWAIIAN CLOTHES to be reminded to “lay off or take a break from screens and connect in person more.” (Note: Camelot shifted the order of the days.)
Falls Church HS Homecoming Parade. Join Camelot staff and other Camelot families in walking in the FCHS homecoming parade on Friday, October 25! The event takes place at Falls Church HS (and into the nearby neighborhood) from 5:30pm-6:10pm. (See the flier that went home today.) Wear blue or Camelot spirit wear and help us carry our Camelot flags!

Help us meet our goal of $20,000 to help fund our PTA enrichment activities and community events for our school. Your child can ask friends, family and neighbors to get pledges by going online or using the paper pledge form and envelope in this week's Thursday folder. Look for an email with a 99pledges online link to your child's personal fundraising page and share it via email and social media.
Grand prize for the most money raised is a hoverboard, $50 Target gift card, and “PE Teacher For The Day”. Top earner in each grade wins a $50 gift card to Zappos for new running shoes! Raffle prizes for every grade - the more pledges your student gets, the more chances they have to win.

PTA Meeting and Digital Citizenship Presentation - October 29, 7:15pm. Join us for our PTA meeting and a parent presentation and discussion on Oct 29th. As parents in the digital age, being aware, alert and involved in your children’s use of the internet is crucial. What else can you do to keep your child safe on the internet?
Digital Citizenship can be described as the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior, and its positive and negative impact on self and others with regard to technology use. It is important for parents to help their child become safe, ethical, responsible and respectful digital citizens. Erika Deem, a Parent Resource Center Liaison will join us to give a presentation to help support parents in learning necessary supports so all students have a safe online space in which to learn healthy, and respectful technology use at home and school.

Seeking Odyssey of the Mind Coaches!! Participants build self-confidence, develop life skills, create new friendships, and are able to recognize and explore their true potential.

The program begins in early November. The program wraps up with a regional competition in March where teams display the solutions that they have worked on over the year. If you might be interested in coaching an Odyssey of the Mind team this year, please contact Christine Edgerton by October 18th at christine.edgerton@gmail.com.
