Spotlight on the Library

Libarry

Welcome back to a new school year! We are one month into the year, and the library has been busy welcoming your students with a new design, a new Google Site, and new policies! We have over 100 students in the library every morning. They are engaged in chatting, hanging out, playing games, printing, and studying. We also have a new Edison Library GoogleSite that has resources, pictures, links to our Twitter account, and our databases. Your students may access the GoogleSite through their digital eagle or the Edison Library Website. We have many new databases that will help your students with their studies and research this year. Tell your students to stop by and see the new space! If you have any questions, our librarians, Sarah Mahan (smmahan@fcps.edu) and Melanie Burdett (mjburdett@fcps.edu), are here to help you. We are enjoying getting to know your students and helping them in any way possible.

Seniors will also be participating in various activities; more information about their schedule will be coming soon. This will be a full day of school. After the completion of testing and other activities, students will report to 5th and 7th periods to complete the day.

Lock and Talk

Lock and Talk is part of a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention in the Commonwealth of Virginia and being implemented by the Wellness, Health Promotion and Prevention program of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Service Board. It is intended to:

• Prevent suicides by restricting access to firearms and poisons during a mental health crisis.
• Educate the community about how to recognize and respond to warning signs.
• Encourage others to pass on knowledge.

Promoting safe and responsible care of lethal means, while encouraging community conversations around mental wellness, are vital to our mission of suicide prevention and wellness promotion.
