Bike Safety

Families, please speak with your children about Bike Safety:

purple star

Virginia Purple Star Schools - Hunt Valley ES!

Virginia has 27 military installations and is home to nearly 120,000 active duty and reserve members. Virginia also has some of the best school districts in the country. Julie P. Shepard is a parent, Navy spouse of 24 years and PTA military family liaison in Fairfax County. She’s been instrumental in helping other military parents navigate schools in Northern Virginia.

Purple Star public schools in Fairfax County: Clermont ElementaryColin Powell Elementary, Flint Hill Elementary, Fort Belvoir Primary, Fort Belvoir Upper, Hayfield Secondary, Hunt Valley Elementary, Lane Elementary, Longfellow Middle, North Springfield Elementary, Rocky Run Middle, Sangster Elementary, Sunrise Valley Elementary, and Waynewood Elementary.

To qualify for a Purple Star, schools must have a trained staff member as a primary point of contact for military families and students who also serves as a liaison between the school and local military communities. Schools must also demonstrate their commitment to meeting the needs of military students by providing resources and programming on issues important to military families, such as transitions and academic planning.

Purple Star schools retain the designation for three years before being required to reapply.

Mrs. Ross, Mr. Zatt, and Mr. Barbaro are looking for LOTS of parent volunteers for Field Day – especially for 4th-6th grade.

On field day Hunt Valley children engage in many fun activities to celebrate our Physical Education program.  A large number of volunteers (90 – 100) and adult supervision is needed for this day to be a success.

Volunteers will be used to help run stations or supervise a class as they travel from station-to-station.  You may choose to volunteer for one or both of the sessions. A detailed schedule will be made based on the number of volunteers that sign-up by Friday, October 11.  Please click here to volunteer!

Information for volunteers will be distributed via email approximately one week before field day.  An information table will also be set up in the foyer on field day to provide volunteer job assignments, the location of the stations, etc.

Please come and enjoy field day with your Hunt Valley child!  We need YOU!

Pumpkin Parade is coming!

Decorate! Get a real pumpkin and turn it into a book character (classic or trendy).  Please don’t cut or pierce the pumpkin as it will be on display and we want it to last.

Describe! Get an index (3x5) card.  Fold it in half into a tent, hamburger style.  On the outside of the tent, write three clues to describe your pumpkin character.  On the inside – so we can’t see it – write your pumpkin character’s name and your child’s name.

Display! Deliver your pumpkin to the library the week of Oct 21-25.  Pumpkins will be displayed until October 31st.  Pick up pumpkins Nov 1-5.  All remaining pumpkins will be returned to the patch on Nov. 6th.

If you need an index card, please stop by the library.
