CLEARVIEW ES NEWS YOU CHOOSE- October 3, 2019

Halloween

Clearview Elementary School does not celebrate Halloween during the school day.  Costumes should not be worn to school.  We encourage all families who are interested to attend the PTA-sponsored Costume Bingo from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, October 25.  We also ask that parents refrain from sending in candy as a snack or as part of their children’s lunches.

Advanced Academics Program Parent Information Sessions

FCPS offers a continuum of services for elementary students to meet their current academic needs. Clearview offers all four levels of service. For Clearview has a full-time Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART) this year thanks to the county’s decision to staff a full-time position at all Title I schools.  Tracey Baroody, Clearview’s long-time AART, is serving in this role.  She will offer a parent information session giving an overview of the Continuum of Service on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 in the Clearview library.  Parents may choose to attend a session from 8:00-9:00 AM, with children in attendance till they can be dismissed to classrooms at 8:40 AM or from 6:00-7:00 PM. Babysitting isn’t provided; however, children are welcome to sit quietly and read a book in the library if they accompany their parents.

Continuum of AAP Services

Level I: Grades K-6 – All students receive lessons in critical and creative thinking strategies and some AAP curriculum lessons.

Level II: Grades K-6 – Identified students receive AAP curriculum lessons in the general education setting in areas of academic strength.

Level III: Grades 3-6 – Identified students receive AAP curriculum lessons in more than one academic content area. The Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) leads these lessons. Programming has increased depth and complexity in several content areas.

Level IV: Grades 3-8 –Identified students receive AAP curriculum lessons full-time. Programming has increased depth, complexity, and pace in all academic content areas.

Portrait of a Graduate at Clearview

In 2014, the FCPS School Board developed and adopted the Portrait of a Graduate (POG) through collaboration with a variety of stakeholders in our community. This adoption of POG acknowledged that in our rapidly changing world, education needs to evolve to fulfill our mission of supporting student success in school and in life. POG prioritizes the development of skills that will empower students to be productive citizens of a global community and successful in the workforce of the future.

A goal in FCPS is to provide opportunities for students to demonstrate learning in more authentic ways. Teachers in FCPS are enhancing learning opportunities to include the attributes of Communicator, Collaborator, Ethical and Global Citizen, Creative and Critical Thinker, and Goal-Directed and Resilient Individual.

During the 2019-2020 school year at Clearview, we have developed school improvement plan goals focusing specifically on Goal-Directed and Resilient Individual. Your child’s classroom teacher can tell you ways in which s/he is providing learning opportunities during the school day that give students opportunities to develop the following skills:

I make safe and healthy life choices.

I treat other people with kindness.

I don’t give up when something is difficult.

I make a plan to achieve my goals.

I am responsible for completing my work.

I learn from my mistakes and keep trying.
