Dear Families,
October is here, even if October weather is not! We have entered the season of school events. The PTA sponsors some wonderful opportunities to have fun with your kids, like last week's Cougar Crawl or the upcoming Monster Mash. The school is also planning some educational opportunities to build community, such as Multicultural Day/International Night or Veterans' Day. These events provide you and your family the opportunity to connect with other families and staff. I encourage you to participate and enjoy the fellowship that the Canterbury Woods community has to offer.
This week is also the first week we are going paperless for Take Home Tuesday! We actually didn't have any flyers for THT this week, but below we have included a link to our website for some announcements and so that you can bookmark the THT page on our website.
Here's hoping fall weather stays with us this October!
Best,
Diane Leipzig (Dr. L)
Last night our gifted singers lent their voices to the unified elementary choruses of the Woodson pyramid! Many thanks to Dr. G and Ms. Omaraie for their direction, leadership and fun!

Students will have the chance to explore around the world without leaving school. CWES students will experience a sneak preview to International Night and rotate around our building to learn about the different cultures/traditions from parents of our students! We can’t wait! |
CWES celebrates the cultures of our students/families during this year’s International Night. Come out for a fun-filled evening and learn about some of the traditions and customs celebrated by our CWES friends/families.
This year CWES is working to join over 1,600 schools across the country to become a No Place for Hate® school. We are forming a small committee of students, staff and community members to meet monthly to create a climate of inclusion and appreciation of diversity.
We will plan and implement at least one school-wide No Place for Hate® activity before the end of the school year. Students in 3rd – 6th grade are eligible to apply to be a part of this exciting committee by getting an application from Mrs. Wilson or the main office and turning it in to Mrs. Wilson by Friday, October 11. Please encourage your child to reach out to Mrs. Wilson with any questions.

We will continue our time honored CWES tradition! Veterans and active duty service members are invited to come in and share stories and experiences with our students. If you are interested in participating, please contact assistant principal, Deirdre Ladd at dbladd@fcps.edu |
Check out this conference at Fairfax High School if you are interested in promoting your children's psychological wellness. The morning will focus on social and emotional learning, with a keynote address given by Dr. Marc Brackett, founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, the organization conducting the RULER study. Many breakout sessions give you the chance to explore a variety of topics, such as anxiety, executive functioning, and promoting self esteem and resilience. Visit the conference website for registration and more information.
