New Principal Search Process
A new search is underway for a new principal at Lee. Ms. Deirdre Lavery, our current principal, is retiring December 31, 2019. Please see below for important information regarding the process.
Feedback/Input process
A critical component of the process is your written input. We invite you to offer your individual written input (preferably via e-mail) regarding the skills, experience and leadership characteristics needed for Lee High School. You might also address any challenges or issues that a new principal will need to address. Input is confidential and will not be discussed at the meeting. We welcome your input now, upon receipt of this message, and are hopeful that many of you will share your thoughts. Fairfax County Public Schools mission is to provide creative, knowledgeable, and talented leadership to ensure student success. To determine the best match for the leadership needs at your school, parent and staff perspectives will be used to screen candidate resumes and develop interview questions. Please provide input detailing the skills, experiences, and leadership characteristics needed at your school. Include challenges and issues that the new principal will need to address. Principal professional skills include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources, organizational management, and communication and community relations.
Principal Selection Panel
After the application process is complete and potential candidates have been identified, FCPS presents those candidates to a principal selection panel. This panel consists of 3 staff members and 3 parent/community members of Lee High School. This panel will be held Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 at the Gatehouse Administrative Center in Falls Church. We ask that any community member that submits their name as a candidate to serve on the panel confirm they are available for the entire day (7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.) The panel may not take the entire day, but in case it does, we want to be sure all are available for the entire process.
Community representatives should be those who are committed to the principal selection process and the future of Lee High School. The panel members should represent the diversity of the school, the various ages/grade levels of children in the school, various programs/activities in which their children are involved, etc. If you are interested in serving on this panel, please submit the following information to Liz McGhan, Lee HS PTSA President, at leeptsapresident@gmail.com no later than this Friday, October 4, 2019

6 parent/community members will be submitted to the Human Resources department of FCPS. From those 6, 3 will be chosen to serve on the panel and 3 will be designated as alternates.
Join the PTSA!
We need members to make the PTSA run! By joining the PTSA you not only support Lee High School but are connected to a state and national organization that advocates for our children. Go to the PTSA website: www.leehsptsa.org for more information and to join. You can join online as well as print and mail the form to the school.
There are several areas where we could use some volunteers:
- Coordinate Hospitality events – staff appreciation event in May, etc.
- Library – needed to assist in the daily operation of the library. Help needed during school hours
- General Help – we will email you when volunteers are needed for an event

PTSA Scholarships!
Each year the PTSA offers scholarships to graduating Seniors of Lee High School. To be eligible, seniors must be members of the PTSA. PTSA membership for students is $10. The deadline to become a member and be eligible for the scholarships is February 1, 2020. The scholarship application must be submitted by May 1, 2019. PTSA membership applications and the scholarship application can be found on the “Senior Table” in the main office, in the Career Center (from Ms. Shaw) and on the PTSA website: www.leehsptsa.org
Donate to the PTSA!
The PTSA is in need of donations to help fund our mission to promote Lee High School, support our staff and the academic achievement of our students. Your donations help support our student organizations, provide teacher appreciation events, award scholarships and help fund the All Night Graduation Celebration. Checks can be made out to Lee HS PTSA and dropped off at the office or mailed to Lee High School PTSA, 6540 Franconia Road, Springfield, VA, 22150. Thanks for your support!

CLASS OF 2020 - All Night Grad Celebration (ANGC)!
This year’s All Night Grad Celebration will be held the night of graduation, June 1, 2020. We need parents from all grade levels to help plan this safe and fun event for our 2020 Seniors!
