Mrs. Willison's 2nd graders enjoy a Crazy Sock Day after meeting their classroom goal.

Willow Springs Families,

First off, we’ve had an absolute blast working with all of you over these past two weeks to make our Boosterthon a smashing success. Thank you for  participating, donating, volunteering, and cheering us on!

Now that the activities are over, we’re celebrating that our Willow Springs Elementary School community collectively raised over $42,000! We had pledges from ten countries and all 50 states! THAT IS AMAZING! We ended up WAY over our goal and is just another example of what makes our school so remarkable.

National Walk to School Day was also a huge success this week. This event was made possible by the generous donations and support from our dedicated community. It helped facilitate discussions on how to live a healthy lifestyle, as well as reduce the impact our carbon footprint has on the world. Thank you to all who participated and helped make this happen. We loved seeing families incorporating exercise as a way to get to school while also promoting environmental awareness. As always, we want to encourage the use of buses and walking/biking to school. Additionally, please remember that the walking paths are for the neighborhood only. They should not be used as a secondary kiss and ride line. Additional traffic adds a dangerous element to what should be an excellent path to walk to school.

Next week our AAP information session will be facilitated by Sandy Guidice-Murray, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, where she will provide information and resources about the continuum of services proudly offered at Willow Springs. More information is listed below and found on our website.

Be sure to follow us on twitter @WSESfox to see the magic happen every day.

Positivity Project

This week, our students learned about open-mindedness. Open-mindedness is the willingness to actively search for evidence that goes against one’s favored beliefs, plans, or goals. Open-minded individuals are able to weigh all evidence fairly, when it is available. They see the other side and fight the tendency to have a bias for their own views. And, rather than favoring the socially dominant views, they give attention to those that are less dominant.

This character strength helps individuals build knowledge about specific issues or points of view – and provide sound recommendations and advice. Open-minded people do not jump to conclusions. Instead, they seek out and examine all of the available evidence before forming an opinion.

This is a great time to ask your kids how they are being open-minded!
