A message from Mrs. Pilson

Greetings ATES Families,

I would like to thank all our families who attended Back to School Night. We were delighted to see so many families in attendance to learn about their child or children’s school experiences.

Thank you to our PTA for providing the Korean BBQ food truck and selling ice cream during Back to School Night; both were a huge success!  This was a wonderful school community event that highlights the importance of the home school partnership.

We have been in school for 6 weeks and the academic momentum is going strong. As we continue through the first quarter of the school year, it is very important to maintain routines with your child/children. These routines include:

  •         Regular bed time that ensures 9-11 hours of sleep at night
  •         Arriving to school on time every day
  •         Making sure your child completes his or her homework
  •         Reading for 20-30 minutes each night.

These routines provide children with the consistency they need to thrive at school and beyond.

Thank you all for your continued support and partnership!

Sincerely,

Lisa Pilson, Principal

Birthday Policy

Parents may bring a small treat for their child to share with classmates during lunch time only, to celebrate his/her birthday. Please contact your child’s teacher let him/her know that a birthday treat will be sent in and to find out if there are students with food allergies. Birthday treats are to be easily shared store bought items (so the ingredients can be read) such as cookies or cupcakes. The school will also recognize your child’s birthday with a birthday pencil and a card. In addition, we will announce your child’s name on his/her birthday during the morning news announcements.  Please only take pictures of your own child while at school for a birthday celebration.

If your child is inviting classmates to his or her birthday party please do not have your child distribute the invitations at school, unless all students in your child’s class are invited.

Messages from Clinic

Hello ATES Kindergarten and 3rd grade families!

The Health Room will be conducting hearing and vision screenings during the month of October with Kindergarten and 3rd grade students. Vision and hearing screenings are mandated by the Commonwealth of Virginia annually for students in Kindergarten, 3rd grade, new to county, and any student who failed a screening in the past and have not sent in documentation of resolution. If you know that your student will be screened and they wear glasses please send them with their glasses, otherwise they will not be screened for vision if they don’t have glasses with them. Making sure that they come prepared will ensure that the test is done correctly and they are not in need of a new prescription for glasses. If you need more information regarding the hearing and vision screening please call Ms. Stabile in the Health Room at 703-658-5610. Thank you so much for your cooperation!

In addition, parent volunteer substitutes are wanted in our clinic. You will get trained by our professional Public Health Nurse. If you are interested, please contact Lisa Yonika via lsyonika@fcps.edu. Thank you.
