Hello Centre Ridge Family-

Good afternoon everyone. I hope you have had a great 2 weeks. We had an amazing assembly last week to celebrate Constitution Day. During the assembly we talked about the Positivity Project, the PTA Read-a-thon fundraiser and the new RAMS behavior expectation guidelines. We also took the time to hold our SCA speeches for our 6th graders running for office.

RAMS stands for Respectful, Accountable, Mindful, Safe. These terms help define the expectations we have for all of our students when we are at Centre Ridge. Students will offer ideas for what RAMS look like and we will post these ideas in the school.

We thank you for all of your support and look forward to working together to continue to make Centre Ridge such a magical place.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend

Bin

Donation Bin

Reminder that the clothes/shoes donation bin is on school grounds located by the soccer field. If you have any clothes and/or shoes to donate, please bring them to the bin. All items are used to support families in the Centreville area and Centre Ridge gets a fee for every pound of clothes donated. Great way to support the community and the school at the same time.

It's time to join the PTA!!!

  • Did you know...
    • That joining the PTA gives us a bigger voice when meeting with school officials and local/state/federal legislatures?
    • Being a member DOES NOT commit you to coming to meetings or volunteering?
    • PTA Memberships are not just for parents? Grandparents, friends, and community members can also join!
  • Sign up using the membership form from the first day packet or by going to:

Walk to School Day

Walk to School day will be Wednesday, October 2. We will meet at North Centre Ridge Park at the end of Field Encampment 7:50 AM and walk to Centre Ridge from there. If you can join us at anytime on the route it is a wonderful event.

CVHS Homecoming Parade

The Centreville High School homecoming parade will begin at 4:30 on Friday, October 4. Anyone who wants to be a part of the parade should meet at Union Mill Elementary school at 4:15. We will walk with the other schools in the Centreville Pyramid. Wear your CRES spirit wear and support the Wildcats.

P2

Positivity Project

I hope that your students enjoyed learning this week’s trait: teamwork. Next week, we'll begin learning why people who use open-mindedness are more likely to make accurate decisions – and decisions that they won’t regret. Open-mindedness is the willingness to actively search for evidence that goes against one’s favored beliefs, plans, or goals. Open-minded individuals are able to weigh all evidence fairly, when it is available. They see the other side and fight the tendency to have a bias for their own views. And, rather than favoring the socially dominant views, they give attention to those that are less dominant. This character strength helps individuals build knowledge about specific issues or points of view – and provide sound recommendations and advice. Open-minded people do not jump to conclusions. Instead, they seek out and examine all the available evidence before forming an opinion.

NASA contest

NASA is holding a contest to name the Mars Rover! They are asking kids to submit essays giving a name and reasoning behind it for the Mars Rover that will land on Mars in February 2021. You can do it in small groups or individually. Submissions are due November 1st. Essays will be judged over the winter and the finalists will be announced in February 2020. Finalists will be invited to see the Rover landing in Florida in 2021.

For more information, check out the website here. They have learning resources and a short video introducing the contest with the real Rover engineers.
