Walking 2019

Students walking to school to celebrate International Walk to School Day 2019.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

I hope you have been enjoying the smells and sights of the Fall season! I will be sneaking in one more camping trip with my family before cooler weather is here for good. I hope you can also enjoy the outdoors and unplug for a while this weekend.

I would like to invite you to the PTA Meeting at 6:00pm on October 16, 2019 where you will have the opportunity to hear from Eric Brunner, FCPS Coordinator of Capital Projects. Can you believe OHES is 36 years old? I know we “look good” but OHES needs some freshening up. Renovation will begin in the Fall of the 2021-22 school year!  Planning for such an event begins years before ground is broken. The first step is to come together and share the preliminary plans for Oak Hill and have a chance to answer questions you may have. When renovation is complete, all students will be housed inside Oak Hill’s walls and will no longer be in a modular or trailers. We look forward to this partnership with FCPS Design and Construction!

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill.  My door is always open!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

Region 5 #OtherPeopleMatter - Hurricane Relief Effort

Dear Region 5 Communities,

Each of the 32 schools in Region 5 of Fairfax County Public Schools are uniting together to support the humanitarian crisis that has occurred in the Bahamas due to Hurricane Dorian. We have all witnessed the devastation from this deadly storm and we want to be able to help. There are an estimated 18,000 children in crisis and many children have lost everything they own. So we are calling each of our communities to action!

Over the next two weeks, we will be fundraising by using a GoFundMe page. The link is below which also includes a link to a video for more information. All proceeds will go to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). Our funds will go to water, shelter, food, clothes, backpacks, books, and other school materials.

Please join Region 5 in making a difference. Any amount can be helpful! The fundraiser will run from Wednesday, September 18th to Friday, October 4th.

Please click this link to go to our GoFundMe page.

Thank you for supporting this cause!

Chantilly Pyramid Mental Health Google Site and the FCPS Mental Health and Wellness Conference

FCPS aims to support the positive mental health and wellness of all students.  School counselors are excited to share our mental health resource site for the Chantilly community.  We have created a site for parents/guardians located here.  If you have specific questions or needs, please contact your child’s school counselor directly.

All counselors in the Chantilly Pyramid encourage families to attend the sixth annual FCPS Mental Health and Wellness Conference sponsored by Inova being this Saturday, October 5, at Fairfax High School from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Participants will be able to choose from a wide variety of breakout sessions, and there will be many resource tables available, representing public and private offices and agencies providing services within our schools.  More information is available on the Mental Health and Wellness Conference webpage.

Health Room Volunteers Needed

volunteer

The Oak Hill Health Room is looking for volunteers.  We especially need your help for Vision and Hearing Screening which will be held on October 8 from 9:00-12:00. Each year every Kindergarten and 3rd grade student will have both a vision and hearing screening.  If you can spare a couple of hours to help us out it would be greatly appreciated and help the day go more smoothly.  You do not need any training to assist with the vision/hearing screening.

In addition, we need volunteers to come in and help the Health Aide with some day-to-day tasks and basic care for students.  Sometimes we need help if the Health Aide needs to do some filing or if the health room is very busy.  You need to complete a 2-3 hour Health Room Volunteer Training prior to helping in the health room. To volunteer and sign up for the training, please contact Juliana Rampersad at jtrampersad@fcps.edu.
