CWES Weekly Happenings

Agee

Author Jon Agee shared his creative process with our K-2 students today.

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Families,

This week we celebrate Deaf Awareness Week, kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, and gather as a community at the Cougar Crawl. I hope to see you on our walk around the neighborhood and our big "block party" Friday night! Our students benefit from the connections they make with CWES staff and with each other, and they also directly benefit from the connections their families make with the whole CWES community.

international

In that spirit, please consider sharing your family's culture with us on October 17. If the school day works better for you, present a 15-minute story or activity for Multicultural Day. You are also encouraged to come for International Night from 6:30-8:30. Create a display, make a dish, or participate in a performance to teach others about your heritage. Contact Ms. Brown at nlbrown@fcps.edu if you are interested in sharing your culture at either event!

We look forward to learning more about your family!

Best,

Diane Leipzig, "Dr. L"

Meet Our New Instructional Assistants

Daniela Porras joined our SPED IA team to work with our DHOH students.

I’m from Costa Rica (CR) but raised in America. I’m deaf. I am a former Flamenco dancer. I know four languages: Spanish, CR sign language, English, American Sign language. I love to make people laugh. Books are my best friend.  Self-care is my therapy. My hobby is writing blogs and being with loved ones. Chick-fil-A is my go-to. I have a German Shepherd dog. My encouragement for you: “choose kindness and show love to others and yourself.”

Sawaya

Maggie Sawaya joined our sixth grade team to work with our general education students.

I am excited to be joining the CWES team as an Instructional Assistant for the 2019-2020 school year.   I look forward to supporting 6th grade students with their academic endeavors as they prepare for the BIG jump to middle school. I am the proud mom of a kindergartner here at CWES - Go Cougars!!  As a family, we enjoy traveling, camping, and spending time with friends and family.

Brooke Street has joined our SPED IA team and is supporting our 5th grade students.

I recently graduated from California State University Monterey Bay, having lived in California for about 10 years. I spent a lot of my childhood years in Heidelberg, Germany while my father was in the Army. In my free time I love hiking, painting, spending time with animals (especially dogs), and supporting my brother at his baseball games. I also love to spending time with my family, and traveling to different states and countries when I can! I am so excited and grateful to be a part of the Canterbury Woods Elementary team!
