Information to Share

Dear West Potomac Parents and Guardians,

I am reaching out to dispel rumors related to an incident that took place at our school last week. Last Wednesday 9/18/19, two students were involved in a fight that took place in a hallway in the Quander building. After the fight was broken up, a student who was not involved reported hearing that one of the students who took part in the altercation planned to bring a weapon to school for self-defense, if needed.

This information was immediately reported to our School Resource Officer (SRO) and the Fairfax County Police Department. The SRO spoke with the student. The student did not have a weapon.

Additionally, the police made contact with the student and the student’s family, and did not believe there was a risk to the school at that time. The police investigation has concluded.

Our primary responsibility is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Every student must understand the value of appreciating each other's differences, extending common courtesy, and treating each other with respect. We will also continue to encourage students to notify a teacher, administrator, and/or a member of West Potomac’s security team any time they have information which could potentially compromise the safety and security of our school.

Please contact me or a member of my administrative team with questions. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Tangy Millard

Principal
