Meet New Members of Our Staff

Ms. Chelsea Neal

Hello SHES Community! I am so excited to be apart of the SHES family this school year. I am a special education teacher in the Enhanced Autism Program. This is my fourth year in FCPS. I grew up in Hampton, VA. I went to Longwood University for my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. When I am not at school, I enjoy cooking, spending time with friends and family and going to the beach! I am so excited for this upcoming school year!

Andrew_Seo

Mr. Andrew Seo

My name is Andrew Seo.  This will be my first year teaching and I am very excited!  I will be teaching 1st and 2nd grade Special Education.  The past 5 years I worked at Jill’s House, a non-profit that provides short respite for families with children with Intellectual Disability.  It was rewarding to personally get to know the families and give them the support that they needed.  But I felt the greater need from the families was at school, teaching and supporting their kids.

I am excited for the opportunity to teach and make a difference here at Sleepy Hollow!

Sam

Knowing the Signs: Substance Abuse and Today's Youth

Sam believes there are two types of parents:

  1. The first parent thinks that their child is amazing they’re never going to suffer from depression, my kids not getting bullied, and they definitely won’t experiment with drugs or alcohol. The second parent just has no idea.
  2. He feels that his parents fell into both categories. They never thought not for one second that sweet, innocent little Sammy would take a drink from the liquor cabinet at 12 years old. But when he did, they had no idea. If they did, they had no idea how to handle the situation.

Would you?

Sam will talk about:

  1. The reality that there is no gateway drug but only gateway behavior which is often a symptom of learned behavior.
  2. It’s called learned behavior for a reason. Learning is a part of education and education starts at home.
  3. Don’t be one of the parents that had no idea
  4. What my parents missed
  5. How to spot the onset of changes in behavior and what to do about them

Just to name a few.

This talk will improve your ability to handle the unexpected influences in your kids’ life…

By the end of this session parents will have the information needed to have that inevitable conversation with their kids.

Because it’s not if, but when it will happen.

Join us on Friday, October 18th at 10:00 am for this very important and informative workshop from Sam Lucania.  You won’t want to miss it! We will be giving away 2 free books!
